After spending 100 straight miles, on the highway, at 60mph-85mph, under normal acceleration, I was showing a consistant 32.5 mpg. (4 thru 6 gears / shift points 6000-7000 rpms)
After spending 100 miles (over 5 rides), in the city, 35mph-50mph, under normal acceleration, I was showing 22.5 mpg.
I'm running slip on and 2WDW tune. (1-3 gears / shift points 5000-6000 rpms)
My bike like to go fast, not slow, when it comes to gas consumption.

All I know is 35 degrees riding the bike to the shop where work will be done on Tuesday was COLD AS F*CK!!! LOL

On my normal commutes that include mix of city + highway, I'm getting about 28 mpg average. In pure highway riding, it's about 34 mpg. Gas mileage is really terrible with the crossplane engine 😂

The FZ-10's fuel efficiency is pretty poor, but you don't buy a machine like this for fuel economy. If that is important to you then you can always buy a scooter, Yamaha makes the cute Vino Classic (50 cc) which gets 127 mpg, and it will save you $10,700 vs the FZ-10 to boot. Seriously, the only real hassle with the relatively poor fuel economy is the range, but that is manageable. My outings are usually 140 miles or so and that makes the fuel cost about $10 for the day. But considering the joy it gives that is pretty darn cheap entertainment.

I took the FZ all over Daytona for bike week and agree. This bike hates under 40 mph with stop n go lights that's typical at events with traffic. The temp consistently stayed at 220 and roasted my nuts. On the other hand, ripping up 95 for an hour to get to Rossmeyers yielded over 34 mpg. Flipping drive modes helped a lot in traffic.

I have to admit out all the recent bikes I've had I have never felt any objectionable heat from my FZ. Now if you want to feel some real heat ride ride a Concours 14 in traffic. I could have left work, put on a steak and a potato and had a decent BBQ by the time I got home. Not so on the FZ.

That's some pretty decent mileage. I usually see the fuel light around 80 miles and have almost ran dry at a couple miles over 100 to the tank. 2WDW tune and yosh decat/exhaust. It's slightly annoying to have to fill up constantly but the power and low temp is worth it. Cruising I'm usually seeing 159-160 degrees F, stop and go doesn't get over 210 much since the fans kick on earlier.

was getting slightly more than 32 mpg until the 2WDW tune, now it's lower - go figure. I agree with many others, I didn't buy this bike because it was thrifty. the entertainment value is well worth the cost!
regarding hot bikes, my Ducati 998 will keep you warm in winter and smoke your bag in summer! as long as you keep moving, though, it's not too much of an issue...

Every Duke I have ever had has roasted the boys, but nothing ran hotter than my RC51, hands down the best track bike and the worst street bike all in one.

I have put 358 miles on my bike mostly over mountain passes and have averaged 38.5 MPG thats better than i expected hope it stays that way.

Its really interesting that you all are getting such poor mileage.
Instantaneous mileage at 75mph on level highway is 38-42mpg. I average between 30-34mpg. I weigh about 170 geared.
I also don't have heat problems and it runs cooler than any of the other bikes I've owned. I've also noticed that when its full hot and you get moving again the coolant temps fall quickly, so it seems to be good at dumping excess heat. I also noticed the bike running cooler and getting slightly better mileage after the cat was removed.

I think low 30s is the norm, but there are always a few exceptions of higher and lower mpg -10s. We really don't have that many posters to get an accurate picture. On the MT-10 forum, I wrote about my 1/2 tank LED showing up at 60 miles, 1/4 tank at 90 miles and reserve at 110-120 pretty much every tankful. Most members said that was exactly what they were getting. Unlike lower power bikes, how we ride doesn't make a huge difference either. I've babied it through a full tank and I've ridden super aggressive on other tanks with speeds upward to 140 mph and only saw mileage vary from 32-35 mpg. Pros and cons of higher horsepower machines. The lower the power on a bike, the more speed and technique affect consumption.
By the way, my -10 is running factory muffler, cat and no tune. Mileage has also stayed the same using low grade 87 octane versus premium gas. It also performs the same with both. I just make sure the gas station pumps upper tier product. If I don't know, I run premium.
With fuel injection, altitude shouldn't change things either. Average in Wisconsin is around 600 feet.

weird occurrence on my -10 yesterday. (been watching mileage because of this thread and made a concerted effort to use 6th gear and stay out of the throttle. averaging about 31 when I ride conservatively.) remaining fuel level (1/6th tank) started blinking when I was almost at work, and with "Trip 2" displayed, the the mileage changed from "112.3" miles to counting up from "0". I thought I remembered the manual saying it does that when you're on "reserve" (forgot to check the manual last night)? anyway, after work, started the bike, "Trip 2" displayed "112.8" and counted up from that number normally. went straight to the gas station and the bike only took 3.8 gallons. not being able to maximize tank fuel range is irritating.
