Ok... sorry this post is so long. But here's a breakdown of everything I've been through in the past months with my MT-10. Never in a million years would I ever have expected these issues with a new Yamaha. I never thought I would be suing a manufacturer, but here we go.
Everything is stock on this bike. The only mods I made are luggage, windscreen, engine guards, swingarm spools, axle sliders.
Intro07/26/2022 - Bike is purchased new from Wheels of Freedom in Rhode Island. OTD was 14,300 (had to pay sales tax on that in NJ DMV). Those guys are great, shout out to them!
07/03/2023 - I bought the 48 month extended warranty from Yamaha. $735.71
9/15/2023 - CeL thrown! 09/15/2023 - Bike threw a check engine light randomly at 8,644 miles. No ridability issues. I called my local dealer (mentioned throughout) and they said I can try a few things myself. The light went off on its own after cycling the key enough times (approx 10 times)
10/02/2023 - Check engine light again at 8,816 miles. Called dealer, scheduled appointment for Oct 11.
10/10/2023 - Dropped off for service10/10/2023 - Dropped off for service with the CeL on.
10/17/2023 - Called dealer asking for an update. Dealer claims they did a bunch of diagnosis and found nothing.
10/21/2023 - Called asking for an update. Same information as before.
10/26/2023 - Called asking for an update. They were busy, but they called me back 1hr later, with the same information as before.
10/31/2023 - Called asking for an update. Same info as before.
11/02/2023 - Received a call stating the bike is ready for pickup.
11/03/2023 - Picked up bike with 8,830 miles. I paid $159.94 because no repair was made. Again, no ridability issues. Everything is acting normal. Light is now off.
11/18/2023 - Dropped off for service again. TPS and APS get replaced.11/18/2023 - 9,204 miles. CeL is on again. Called dealer, dropped it off that day with 9,235 miles. At this point I have no vacation days left and really have no time to ride. I don't have the drive to call them constantly asking for updates anymore. Frustrated.
12/02/2023 - Dealer calls me. Found an issue with the Throttle Position Sensor (B3L-85885-01-00) and Acceleration Position Sensor (B5Y-8291R-00-00) will be replaced.
01/30/2024 - Dealer calls me but I missed the call.
01/31/2024 - Picked up the bike. A new issue arises!01/31/2024 - Called the dealer and said the bike is ready for pickup. (it was ready 01/30/2024)
01/31/2024 - picked up the bike. The rear-left blinker was broken and dangling by wires. I realized this and notified them. They said they would replace it. For now, they taped and glued the blinker on. I had to drive home and get my helmet, then come back later that night and ride the bike home from the dealership.
01/31/2024 - Immediately upon leaving the dealership the bike had the throttle issue I described earlier in the thread, shown in this video:
https://youtu.be/_zWp6Wp1qhw?t=105
I left the dealership a voicemail that night.
02/02/2024 - I didn't get a call back. I called the dealership, they claimed they didn't get my voicemail. I explained the behavior. They claimed that this is probably the manufacturer's fuel mapping, and I can get a fuel mapper to fix the issue. (Something like that). I was pissed, I told them I know how the bike is supposed to ride and this wasn't right. It was fine before they touched it.
02/06/2024 - Dropped off for service again. Dealer claims spark plugs.02/06/2024 - Dropped bike off and showed them the video. I also sent them the video of of my issues via email.
02/08/2024 - Called the dealer asking if they received my video via email. They did.
03/01/2024 - Called dealer for an update. They were still investigating... thinking that it's spark plugs... But they are still looking into it.
03/05/2024 - Called dealer for an update. They are claiming the spark plugs need to be replaced and won't continue diagnosing the spark plugs until they are replaced. In the dealer's defense, they were past due as Yamaha recommends 9k miles.
3/05/2024 - I call Yamaha Customer Relations (shoutout victor, he's cool)03/05/2024 - Called Yamaha customer Relations. It was a 13 minute call where basically I complained about the dealership, felt this process was taking too long, asked if I could bring it somewhere else, etc. They are cool dudes there, but they are limited in how they can help. No progress was really made on that call.
03/05/2024 - Called dealer back saying I'm going to do the spark plugs myself.
03/08/2024 - Picked up the bike from the dealer and started to replace the spark plugs. The blinker wasn't replaced, either. When I mentioned this, he first looked at me like I was crazy... But then later on said he remembered and made a note. (Again, stupidly I didn't get documentation).
3/08/2024 - I replace spark plugs3/08/2024-3/09/2024 - It took me 10 hours, but I did it. I replaced the spark plugs. The issue persisted.
03/09/2024 - Dropped the bike back off at the dealer with spark plugs replaced. Gave them the old plugs, and showed them videos of me replacing everything.
03/09/2024 - Dealer calls me. I can't remember for what, but it was 2 minutes.
03/12/2024 - Called the dealer. I can't remember why. It was also 2 minutes.
03/15/2024 - Called Yamaha Customer Relations. I felt so bad for Victor. He listened to me whine for 43 minutes. At this point, I had everything above documented, and he listened noted everything down. I liked working with him. I told him that I want him to call the dealer on my behalf. At this point, I'm sick of working with the dealer. I also mentioned that I am contemplating contacting a lemon lawyer.
03/15/2024 - First attempt to the lemon lawyer03/15/2024 - Filled out a webform for a lemon lawyer.
03/18/2024 - Received a call back from lemon lawyer, but I didn't answer. I called back later that day, but it was past the hours to get me to a paralegal.
03/19/2024 - Received a call back from Yamaha customer relations (Victor! He's cool). He informs me he called the dealer, and expects the dealer to call me back soon. To be honest, I was thrilled that I actually received SOMETHING from SOMEONE at Yamaha. Victor informs me he's leaving for vacation for 1 week.
03/20/2024 - Called the lemon lawyer back during business hours. They email me a form I have to sign, along with requested documents I have to attach.
03/21/2024 - Sent the requested documents to the lawyer, they confirmed receipt.
04/04/2024 - Followed-up with the lawyer.
04/05/2024 - Received an email back roughly stating "My apologies. I just sent you an email [...] I should have a legal representative from Yamaha assigned shortly."... So TWO WEEKS passed and I get the feeling nothing happened.
04/11/2024 - Lemon lawyer reaches out to Yamaha04/11/2024 - Sent a follow-up to my lawyer asking for approximate timeframes.
04/12/2024 - response email states: "I'm hoping within 30 days. I’m reaching out to Yamaha now".....
I thought we did this on April 5th?? Ok whatever, they're a free service, I pay nothing. I guess I can't complain for my lack of initiation.
04/12/2024 - Called YCR - dealer is.. "working" on it... I guess. 04/12/2024 - Called Yamaha customer relations (Victor!) asking for an update on my bike. They are able to see the communication between the dealership and the yamaha tech line. The communication between the dealer and the tech line was painful to hear. I'm paraphrasing, but it had the same effect of: "Send us a log file"... "We can't open the log file"... "We can't open that log file either" ... "Call so we can explain how to send the log file".... To be honest, I was happy that it seemed like the dealer was actually working though and not letting the bike sit. Additionally, the tech line couldn't open the YouTube video I sent. Yamaha Customer Relations gives me an email address I can send the video to.
04/12/2024 - Sent the video to Yamaha's customer relations mailbox.
4/13/2024 - Bought a new-used bike. Too many good riding days were missed. 04/13/2024 - This is going to drag on forever... I bought a 2018 Honda Rebel 300 from FB marketplace, just so I can get out and ride again.
4/15/2024 - YCR won't talk to me because of the lawsuit. (I miss victor)04/15/2024 - Called Yamaha asking if they got my email of the video. I was informed that myself and Yamaha customer relations are no longer allowed to speak due to the litigation. Kinda sad, Victor is cool.
4/20/2024 - BIKE IS READY!!!!!04/20/2024 - Received a call from dealer stating the bike is ready for pickup. Funny how quick things happen when a lawyer is involved.
04/20/2024 - Picked up the bike. There were no ridability issues and everything seems fine. THE BLINKER IS REPLACED, the chain is lubed and adjusted, the clutch is (poorly) adjusted... the fairings were poorly put back together (I will check this weekend if they broke clips).
04/20/2024 - The dealer claimed they had to purchase an MT-10 from Yamaha because the parts that had to be replaced were on back order. They claimed they took parts from the new MT-10 and put them into my bike. They replaced the entire throttle body assembly. They have the part number listed as B7N-13750-11-00 on the repair order, but according to partzilla, this is the part number for a MT-09.
04/23/2024 - Dealer calls me back to ask if the bike is operating fine. I confirm everything is fine mechanically. The dealer said that there's a Yamaha rep who wanted to contact me. I told them that I do not want to talk to Yamaha, they can talk to my lawyer.
