Has anyone experienced this? I've done some brief Googling and it seems some MTs have a similar ticking and it is somewhat normal. I have just started noticing it around 650-700mi on the ODO. It's not crazy loud, but it has become noticeable and I am just concerned. Some ppl have said it's the Yamaha usual tick, but my understanding is the CP4 is the newer 2015. I plan on doing the second oil change this Saturday, but now I'm thinking I should have the shop do it to inspect the bike. Anyone have suggestions, or more knowledge on the common tendencies of the engine?

Mine has the same tick. It's got 4500 miles on it and I put yamalube synthetic in it on my first post break in oil change. It's still there I just figured it's the Yamaha tick that they all have. My R6 did it the entire time and I sold it with 87,000 on the clock. I don't think it's anything to worry about but it can't hurt to have the dealer look at it if you're concerned.

That ticking is usually the auto cam chain tensioner doing it's thing. Yamaha often makes em noisy.

I think mine is ticking louder since I did my first engine oil change 2 days ago. Seems like the synthetic oil 15w50 yamalube makes it louder. Or it could me me imagining shit...

Or it could me me imagining shit... i know this is an older post but I just did the first oil change on mine and did the 15w50 yamlube and a K&N Hi flow filter. Started it and heard the tick and thought I will just wait a second for the oil pressure to build up and it will go away (like old soft hydraulic tappets) and it didn't. No tick prior to change and definite tick after. So I shut it off, checked the oil level, all good but now a tick?! So a quick search and found these and many more posts that confirm the 'normal' tick....idk, i can't stand the ticking and see the post about the Graves tensioner but wondering why no tick before oil change? I am going to check with dealer to see what lube they used, maybe dino oil acts differently? That doesn't really make sense. If this is normal, I don't like it. This isn't my first Yamaha so while it may be normal on this platform? and non threatening i would say there is a design flaw there somewhere, who would want a metallic RPM related tick? EDIT: just found this video and no ticking? So if it is normal, I guess this would be abnormal?

Classic Yamatick. Worried me to mess on my first R1, had it worse on the second R1, had it the worst on the R6. It was a slight concern on the 07/08 R1's when they first went four-valve because excessive ticking was a precursor to dropping a valve, but I've found ticking to be normal on the other bikes.

I was wondering if the tick is pretty much typical with most owners. I've been reading the other ZF10 forum and it seems to be a more common complaint than here. I'm trying to decide on a new bike and pretty much have it narrowed down to the 10 and the S1000r. Having said that, the tick would be a big issue for me and probably not be able to overlook it whether it's normal or not. I was also looking to see what the feedback from the dealers has been. Any further information would be appreciated.

That ticking is usually the auto cam chain tensioner doing it's thing. Yamaha often makes em noisy. This^^^^ It's normal for automatic cam chain tensioners.. If you want to get rid of the tick, reset the tensioner or buy a manually adjusted cct and adjust it properly yourself. I plan on doing this soon. My cct has been running loose since 50 miles

My always always ticked with even 0 miles, does seems to get a tid bit louder when its wicked hot.

I just function checked and reset my OEM cct and can confirm that the engine is running perfectly quiet again, valves are quieter than a sleeping mouse.. While messing around with it, I noticed this tensioner has a rather finicky design, and does not operate very consistently. The inner corkscrew sometimes grabs and does not allow the tensioner shaft to extend or compress (possibly a poor lubrication issue, or improperly designed metal surfaces causing too much stiction); I believe this is why so many people are having issues with these tensioners... Every tensioner I have messed with on previously owned motorcycles operated much easier. Forwarning, if you plan on doing this yourself, do exactly as the manual says and use a spring compression clamp... I spent an hour trying to compress this tensioner by hand, due to the way the inner corkscrew is designed inside the plunger/tensioner shaft, making for a very difficult resetting process, which requires compression, rotation, and jiggling of the shaft to get it to compress properly. I do not recommend trying this yourself unless you can dissect the tensioner and understand it's workings and how to reset it yourself. It may be normal and acceptable for safe operation but I don't like it anyway... I'm throwing the cct in the garbage and buying a manual tensioner, as I have had to do with all my yamahas.

not surprised to see this thread pop back up. Just read on the Super Tenere' site the same conversation and it seems to be a not so uncommon move to go to the manual CCT. I am seriously thinking this is the way I am going to go. Anyone do this on their FZ yet? Care to share experience?
