Recently been looking into purchasing a new MT-10 but not sure if i should wait for the 2020 version of the bike. does anyone know or think they'll be changing anything for the 2020 model or when a possible announcement could come out?

I've not been able to find any news about the upcoming 2020 model. I bet YAMAHA milks it for another year with only graphics changes! I expect something new in 2021.

I suspect they'll go at least another year with this platform. It's still a modern bike with up to date features.

Yea I would bank on the unlikelyhood of any significant changes. Realatively speaking, the MT-10 would still be considered a young bike as far as its current generation. Seems most brands don't have a generation change before 5 years and some go ever a decade or longer. Especially in the current sales climate.

I don't think we'll hear anything formally until later this year -- October or November -- but I agree with everyone who thinks it will be another color update

I'm aslo thinking of buying a new MT10 so I contacted Yamaha and asked them if they are planing to release a new updated version for 2020 (apart from new colors). The answer was that they could not confirm anything regadring my question. But since Euro 5 is coming in 2020 one would think that Yamaha should do some updates to fulfill these new emission standards? I work in the automotive industry and we share many suppliers when it comes to ECU's and cable harnesses. I will check with my buddies at a common supplier and see if he can confirm anything

Yamaha is very closed lipped as far as info on next years models. Dealers don't get any info till the fall dealer meetings unless Mother Yamaha is bringing out an entire new model. Then they leak some short vids on social media to build interest.

Unless the Euro5 regulations affect the current model, I doubt there will be too many changes to the platform, maybe some slight revisions, but looking at it from a design perspective, the last generation R1 was released in late 2014 as a 2015 model, the MT10 was released in mid 2016 and not available in the US until late 2016 as a 2017 model, if Yamaha follows the same strategy, it would likely be an updated model in late 2020 as a 2021 model. I’m sure eventually there will be a trickle down effect from the upgraded R1, just a matter of when.

the FZ09 came out in 2013 and a new model in 2017. If the Fz10 follows the same logic, 2020 should be a new model. if not 2020 probably the following year. Most likely will have the TFT display from the SP version

Fz came out in 17. European mt came out in 2016. But I guess thats semantics and you're right.

I'm sure the 'new' MT-10 will be just a mild revision (like the R1), but my guess is it'll have the IMU features (cornering ABS, etc) the R1 has now, which will give Yamaha the excuse to bump the price quite a bit. I don't think the bike can get much better than it is right now, but we'll see .

I don't think the bike can get much better than it is right now, but we'll see . Yamaha couldn't even bring the TFT dash or any of the other variants of the MT-10 to the US. Alot of the Genuine Yamaha accessories I wanted had to be ordered through a dealer out of the country. I would have bought an SP or the Touring if it was available here. If there's anything the current bike really "needs", I would say the brakes. Even with better pads, I find it still kinda crappy.

Brakes can easily be upgraded. A more important upgrade would be a larger fuel tank.
