Okay, here goes. I do have a confession to make. After trying everything to tame the body shocking, often painful road surfaces in my area, I came to the sad conclusion that sport bikes, any sport bikes were not the motorcycle of choice for me. I've ridden most of them and owned several. The -10, far and away, the best. So many truly outstanding qualities with no shortage of thrills. But, alas, still a sport bike with frequent road induced pain. It's kind of hard to enjoy the power and speed of this beast, when the road ahead is constantly forcing you to slow down or suffer the consequences. One of my riding mates with a Tuono V4 and vast motorcycle experience told me the only way to tame the bad bumps is to have substantially more travel, as in an ADV bike. Add to that longer suspension and, maybe even, a 21" front wheel and it will be smoother yet. After much research and struggling with the prospect of giving up my superb -10, I narrowed the playing field down to one model. I confirmed everything with a test ride over the roughest stretches of city streets, asphalt highways and irregular height concrete slab freeways. Got seriously lowballed on trade in offer at one dealership, then got a very fair one at another store. Take the loss, sign on dotted line and take the sublimely smooth ride sixty miles back home. Yesterday I took a long ride following a route of all the stretches I avoided before. The bumps were still there, but without the jarring, painful body shocks I got in the past. It does exactly what I need it to do and could very possibly help me retain my license and save me a ton of money on fines. So, what is it? The perfect choice for ended up being a 2017 Triumph Tiger 800 XCX in standard height. Color is matte silver. WP suspension close to 9" of travel front and rear. 21" front wheel. Same weight as the -10, but horsepower reduced to 95. Not the CP4, but still a respectable, smooth triple. I've ordered sprocket sizes that will drop cruising rpm by 500 making it very relaxed and should provide a range of 300 miles per tank. It's a much taller bike with wider bars, but does great through the curves. Going in hot and coming out fast are definetly not happening, but neither is cruising in triple mph digits. It has all of the typical latest electronics including Cruise control and ABS (yes, it's getting HH sintered pads all around). So, those who noticed my reduction in active forum partication will understand why. I still intend to visit this forum and post my 2 cents where appropriate. The new machine (can't quite call it a beast). Not the best picture. More to follow.

So when is your reassignment surgery? Because he chose to go with a bike more appropriate for the roads he is riding? I've been on some of those roads in his area. They are bone rattling and would be even worse on the FZ10. I have roads here I avoid like the plague due to this issue.

Maybe you guys should get together and see if you can get a buy one surgery get the second half off special.
*Before you get your pretty new panties in a twist you should realize one, this is the internet and isn't real. Two, Tigers my internet buddy from several forum boards so he knows I'm a dumbass and just taking the piss. Besides I really wanted to know when his surgery was so maybe I could get his number and take him out for a good time.

That Tiger is a great bike. It does well in a lot of categories. In fact, after some paradigm adjustment, you'll be surprised how fast you can come out of corners (really, how much speed you can retain in corners.)
As I've posted, I sold my R1200GSW for the FZ-10. Although I have no regrets, the long Ohlins suspension made that bike the most comfortable bike I've ever owned.
Your biggest risk is the amount of money you'll want to spend on aftermarket stuff.

Awesome. Glad you're old Internet chums. You also need to realize part of my job as moderator here is to make sure people aren't taking unnecessary jabs at people and running members off. Cheers

Duly noted, but fair warning, you're probably gonna want to keep an eye on me. I like posting after heavy doses of whiskey.

It's cool Bogie. Harry's dry, somewhat subtle (and possibly drunken) wit is never wasted on me.
Harry, I'll let you know when the change heals. Try not to be impatient.

SLV,
I think it should be a lot of fun. I did a ride the other day getting more aggressive on the corners and it hasn't been a problem, even with a 21" wheel up front. ADV school may open up a whole new world to me. Very pleased with my choice.
Regarding aftermarket mods, my list is very short. I ordered a Madstad 18" screen and sprockets to drop highway rpms. Grabon neoprene grips, HH sintered pads and levers are up next. The next purchase after that will be Mitas E-07 tires when the factory skins wear out. Probably $500 tops. How much is everyone dropping on their -10s?

If a particular bike doesn't work out for whatever reason you have to move on to something else. Hope the Triumph works out better for you. I've lived in a lot of areas but never found the roads too rough and punishing for a sporty type bike, I can always find some good roads. Didn't realize WI roads were that bad, I've spent a little time in central WI when I lived in the Joliet, IL area and didn't notice the roads were worse than anywhere else.

Depends on the county a lot. The Upper Penninsula has great roads. I think granite is a major ingredient giving them a reddish color. Smooth and wide with vegetation cut way back. They also have very little traffic, even on holiday weekends. Great place for a -10. They are very strict with the speed limits though.
I love sport bikes, especially the -10, but I just had to go for the comfort.

Yup. Rode this afternoon in perfect 70 degree weather. I started out on a super bad road that I always avoided. The ride was totally fine on the Tiger. I was testing a larger front sprocket and was running 75 mph. Huge difference over the same bumps.
