I just picked up my FZ-10, I am enjoying the bike. The thing is an animal.
I did happen to notice that the way the clutch grabs in first gear seems to be a little off, I notice it kind of has a little stutter/jitter to it when it is initially grabbing. I tried rolling on the throttle a little more before letting the clutch out and that seemed to resolve some of the initial stutter, but there does seem to be some towards the end of the clutch release.
Has anyone experienced this? I could just be paranoid due to it being a new bike, I also am coming from a 600cc.

This also was the only thing I was not happy about when I first bought the bike. I believe that this has more to do with the Yamaha throttle limiter built into the stock ecu settings from 3000-6000 rpm, than it does the clutch. Once I got my ecu re-flashed through the process described here, fz10.org/thread/185/mail-flash-discount-fz10-members, my 1st gear stutter is now completely gone.

Ahh, that could be the issue. I do not know much about how the throttle limiter operates. I will most likely bring it up to the dealership at first service.

I just assumed it was the slipper clutch. Never had one before and it's a little different. I had my ECU flashed and it still does it. Interested to see what others say.

I'm pretty sure its because the bike is at somewhat low rpm when releasing the clutch. The engine really hates being at low rpm imo.

I notice this the most in B mode as the bike wants the revs up and the clutch released fast. If you slowly let the clutch out and slowly roll on the throttle, the bike shutters. If this is your style switch to std or a mode to compare.
It is worth mentioning at your next service interval just to formally get it on record.

If I'm rolling and in first gear it does it the worst. Seems like the clutch to me.

Mine does this as well. Having the ecu reflashed had no effect, it's the same has it was before the flash.

I just purchased my FZ10 a few months ago. I got about 1300 miles now so far. Ive noticed the stutter also going into first gear. when i ease the clutch out really, really slow and roll on the throttle it smooths out and the stutter is gone. I will be taking it in to have it checked out. Im also having an issue with shifting from second to third gear. When shifting from second to third, im not getting a positive engagement of gears when lifting the lever with my foot going into 3rd gear and i have to select it again to get in third. I dont know what is going on.

I had this experience up until I installed adjustable aftermarket levers. Having the clutch lever positioned correctly for me resolved the problem.

After letting the shift lever "reset" to its normal position before lifting it up again to pop it into the next gear the transmission is just butter smooth.

I know exactly what you are talking about in fact I came to ask this very question. From a stop to accelerating in first gear to around 3000rpm I get that stutter. I do not notice it anywhere else in the range. Also something to note is in my case it might show out to be a clutch issue as I never use the clutch save for the before mentioned from stop or going into a stop. I float shift the rest of the range without using any clutch. So I find it odd the only time I do feel the stutter is when I am using the clutch.

I know this sounds like it would make things worse, but it worked for me. Assuming you have standard sprockets, try starting out in second and see what happens. One less shift, both up and down and all moderate accelleraton upshifts without the clutch. That and countersteering are two habits I developed long ago that made my rides easier. You may end up with more stutter, but mine was much better.

I went to the dealer and their A tech took her for a spin. He verified the low speed shutter and advised other FZ 10 owners complained as well. More than likely with will be corrected with a software fix as he thinks is a fuel problem. They documented it on the repair order.
The best thing for us to do is document the complaint so Yamaha creates a fix.

I just got a 2017 FZ-10 and I'm getting the same stutter you guys are all talking about. I get it in 1st and second gear. In 1st gear when taking off and slowing down at low RPM's, same with 2nd gear at low RPM's. Pretty awesome for a 20000 dollar bike!? The only way I am able to smooth it out is by revving her up before takeoff. I imagine that will burn the clutch prematurely, so I don't do it. I told the local dealer and we are going to find the fix together. When we find the fix, I will post it. Other than this issue, the bike is stupid fun and totally awesome!!! Cheers!
