I've been waiting on the GYTR kit for many moons now. According to the Yamaha dealer, it's still on a back order....or maybe exile.... Anyone hear any grumblings in the Yama-sphere about this? I almost wonder if they pulled it for a redesign. It'd be pretty awesome if they went the extra mile with it and included auto-blipping functionality. I'm sure they'd need to reflash the ECU, but it'd be nice to get all that from Yamaha. I'd like to think It'd be cheaper than the 800 buck offerings from aftermarket-land.

I ordered the QS from my dealer on Feb. 14th and was told it was on backorder until March 27th. Checked back around 1st of April and it still wasn't in, dealer called Yamaha and told them to get the lead out and ship the product. Got a call on April 18th that it had just arrived. Seems these are a popular product.
If you really want the QS they are available on eBay at list price + shipping from an authorized dealer. Might be worthwhile to go that route. I would have done that but none were available online at that time. It is a very fun mod and makes the bike much more enjoyable and responsive, the acceleration is much better when you don't have to clutch and shift, just hold the throttle steady and keep shifting up. I find I'll hit 80 or 90 mph very quickly so I only use when I'm sure no po po's are hanging around.

I don't think Yamaha will ever provide the auto blipping function since it would require a reflash and they just don't go that route with these sorts of products, they basically want plug-n-play accessories. They could build this into the ECU from the factory but perhaps there is a reason they don't do so (cost and ?). I'm glad they provided the complete QS function capability right out of the box, just plug it in and initialize it and you are set to go, the electronic logic to cut the power to the engine is already built into the system.

Does anyone know what is the difference between 2016 shifter and 2017-> shifter? I am looking for getting one to my bike (2016 model) and shifter to 2017-> model seems to be a lot cheaper than 2016 model in ebay. Part number is also different but the local dealer here in Finland didn't know the difference.

I maybe well of here but doesn't the R1 have a blipper/downshift?
If it does might it work on our bikes?
As I say,maybe well off.

If the ECU doesn't support blipper and/or clutchless downshifts, it wouldn't work. Plus there might be a difference in the transmission too.
As far as the 2016 bikes having the same QS as 2017s, I'd absolutely count on that, since the bike is still identical in 2020. But you can check part numbers... although there might have been a change, due to a vendor change. Good luck.
