Since having received my first ticket in 14 odd years Ive decided to get proactive and look around for a jammer or detector
Now just because its my first ticket in some years its certainly does not imply that I ride around following the law to the tee, its more like I have been incredibly fortunate to have not been pinged before now
Of course there are some simple rules I have nurtured over the years that have helped but 20 demerit points doesn't sit well with me and like you all, I need my license (it pays my bills)
So what are law enforcement using in 2020 and what bike specific detector and or jammers are available for purchase
Please help school me :}

Edit to add: This is for the US, looks like you may be in a different country, and may not be applicable.
Can’t help you with the detector, as I’ve never owned one.
However, if you haven’t already paid the ticket I’d highly recommend getting a traffic attorney to help with the ticket. Each jurisdiction is different in how they treat tickets once in court, but many are willing to dismiss or reduce once you fight the ticket. You will still end up paying as much (or more) initially in attorney fees and court costs, but the ultimate goal is to avoid (or reduce points) as this will likely save you much more in the long run in insurance premiums.
The “system” does want to get their money. But many jurisdictions will reduce the charges (and eliminate/lower points) as long as they are still getting paid. IMO, the system is more about revenue than public safety.
When I lived in Ohio I got 2 tickets in my car. One was dismissed (still paid court costs) and one was reduced to a muffler violation (no points). My most recent in Wake County, NC wasn’t quite as lucky. They are notorious for not wanting to “negotiate” lesser charges. My attorney did get it reduced from 59 in a 35 to 49, and I used my prayer for judgement to keep the points off my record.
The reason I recommend an attorney (as opposed to fighting it yourself) is because in most areas it is kind of like a big club. The attorneys, prosecutors, and judges all know each other and likely see each other in court weekly (they probably all golf with each other 😉). They are more likely to work out something than if one of us regular Joes walks into court trying to argue our way out of a ticket. Money well spent IMO and experience.

Well I will probably be blocked but here goes anyway hahaha. I am a cop and if it was a laser then your caught. Nothing blocks those things from my knowledge (13 years). Radar is different.
Take defensive driving and see if the court wont throw it out. With all the crap going on, at least here in central Tx, stuff is getting dismissed left and right.

I’m a police officer in Colorado and I’ll weigh in as well. Laser jammers don’t work particularly well for one. Secondly they are illegal in Colorado and most other states. The penalty for using one is harsher than most all speeding violations. My laser unit has a jam indicator on its display that tells me when someone has a jamming unit. Using a jammer is a mandatory summons into court and I will personally collect the device as evidence until your case dispoes. Long story short not worth the money or the risk. As far as radar/laser detectors go they are nearly useless against laser. By the time they have detected the laser I already have your speed. They are much more effective against traditional speed radar. I can’t use my laser when I’m moving so I use my radar for that.

Thanks Seanymac and VK for weighing in
So where are lasers used
Are they in car units or gun by the side of the road
I'm more concerned with cars on the road

Haha see the above response man. He nailed it. Lasers are a point and squeeze deal, you get caught before you know it.

Get an H2, have Brocks flash the ECU. See blue lights. Twist your wrist. Disappear.
Just kidding of course. I’ve never run and wouldn’t if they had me.
But I may or may not have passed a couple on back country roads, going the opposite direction, at go to jail speeds. Not sure if they turned around, but didn’t stick around to find out, hypothetically of course. Around town and in traffic I keep it calm.

They are extremely accurate and near impossible to beat in court.

I’m in the northern part..don’t want to be too specific for obvious reasons. The twisties and skiing are the only things keeping me here. :lol:

I don't know if it is still active but radar busters.com used to have info on how various bands of radar worked as well as laser, also there a guy on YouTube who tests many different detectors and I think he has a site as well.
I have been riding with a detector for awhile now, current set up is a passport Max bar mounted with a tech mount bar mount, for warning I use an earphone plugged into the detector with piece of blue painters tape over my ear to hold It in place. It has saved me several times but isn't fool proof especially since most cars have blind spot monitoring and they give quite a few false alarms especially on 4 lane, high traffic roads, keeping you vision far and wide plus checking your mirrors helps on 4 lanes roads. If the LE is running instant on and your the fastest on the road you might get nicked. Plus everyone has a phone with a camera so doing stupid speeds or stunts might get your plate or picture taken if someone get bent out of shape. Plus riding in a large group gets you noticed, I ride mainly solo, pass slower traffic then get back to my pace, I will wick it up on a twisty section but having road race and track day experience has taught me the street is not the place to test the limit, ride with some reserve for the unexpected. Yes this bike is easy to loose track of speed on, but a little common sense and self control goes a long way, it's hard sometimes with this bike.

The units that are mounted within each patrol car are generally K or KA band. Hand held units are generally laser.

Some great advise above with a bit of humor thrown in :}
I think Ill definitely get one and from the brief look Ive had there seems to be some good options floating around that are specific to my region
These are the two I've narrowed it down to

Any radar detector becomes a ticket notificator. Ha ha. Hey, out of curiosity, what's the approx range of laser guns? Curious about that.
I like to speed, like probably everybody else here, but I always do it safely and responsibly. I have a V1 for my car, but have never used it on the bike. Since I typically only speed when I'm the only one on the road (that I can tell), I don't really need one. Plus that keeps me from trying to push my luck a little more . And the beauty of our naked bike is you feel the speed a lot more than on faired bikes, so you don't feel the 'need' to speed nearly as much. I still like to cruise around 90, but at least here in TX, I'm in the range of not being bothered (10 over... but maybe it's just 5???), especially being the only one on the road.

I can pick cars up at 2,000ish feet. Motorcycles are smaller, have fewer reflective surfaces and are much harder to pick up even at closer distances.

There's no such thing as "Felony Speeding" (unless there's a death involved) Usually!!! Evasion IS a Felony....... I was with this group in 2012 when the first three riders passed a LEO around the 4:30 mark......
