What up. Looking to purchase an FZ/MT-10 soon. I currently have a track only zx6r. I miss riding in the street and want a hyper-naked bike. I've looked at a leftover '17 model which would be approximately 11.6k OTD. What do you guys think?

I bought my new 2019 for $11699. After all said and done otd it was $12998. If it was me i would pay the extra $1300 for a newer bike. But then again I’m not sure where u live and what 19-20 models are going for.

JD,
we're one in the same! I also have a track only ZX6R and wanted a good but comfortable street bike that I could still hit the canyons with. I am VERY happy with the FZ10. 11.6 OTD is a pretty good cost. About a grand cheaper than I paid in 2017 and that was a hell of a deal at the time.
Good luck and welcome to the forum!

It's been a while. I sold my street bike, ninja 300, about 2 months ago and thought I'd be good with track days only but I was wrong lol. The FZ-10 seems to have everything I want in a street bike, especially that crossplane sound. It'll be a good backup bike for TD's too.

Hey OP, define OTD. Is it with all fees, but without TTL, or with TTL? I paid $10,000.00 for my 2017 with 0 miles (no fuel in the tank, empty battery, etc) back in August of 2018, 'out the door', meaning all junk fees included, but no registration, since dealer is in NM (I live a mile away, but I'm in TX). So I had to register the bike in TX for about $700. I don't like comparing prices in different states because taxes are different, so not an apples to apples comparison. So deduct TTL from your deal to see where you stand. You should get a better deal on that 2017 IMO, but I'd only consider it if it has zero miles, and never serviced (no fuel in the tank, etc), since it's been sitting for years. It's basically the same thing as a 2020, except without a quick shifter (bought the OEM for $170). Find a cheaper/newer bike elsewhere, and if you want to buy the local one, use that price to negotiate a better deal. That's what I did. It took me months, but got the call one day . Good luck.

I'd say if you like the bike do it.
Just make the stipulation they put a brand new battery in it.
That old battery will die quick.

I was getting insurance quotes today and it doesn't make sense to me that insuring this bike would be around 1100$ a year with full coverage vs only 600$ for a brand new zx10r.

That ins rate is stupid high. I paid 734 for 2 years with progressive. Full coverage on the 19 mt10 and liability only on my 06 mt109.
Unless your driving record is really jacked man I would look around for sure. But of course all that depends on the State you live in, age etc etc. Good luck!!

I’m only paying $315 a year for full coverage through progressive on my 2018 MT10. I live in Texas 44yrs old with perfect driving record and no claims

I renewed mine for right about $500, but with every option, and everything maxed out. Also in TX and with perfect driving record, but 57. It also depends a lot on zip code, even in the same freaking city. I was paying quite a bit more just 4 miles away from my new house, but on a different zip code. Weird. Large cities like Houston or Dallas are probably more expensive than El Paso, due to more likelihood of an accident or incident.

In Southern California, I pay $1560 a year through McGraw Powersports (Pacific Specialty) 35 years old, 9 years riding 100/300/50 Liability 100/300 Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist 500/500 Comp/Collision
It also seems to matter how many miles you ride with this insurance company.
Progressive, GEICO, etc all want $2200-3500 a year for similar coverages.
EDIT: No accidents, no tickets on my record.

I guess the rates aren't that bad. Going to check out the FZ/MT-10 this weekend. Most likely to buy the MT-10. Potential contenders include the GSX-S 1000, zx10r and R1 lol.

I got my’17 in October of ‘18 with dealer-installed quickshifter (STRONGLY suggest!) and y.e.s. warranty for $11,700 including tax/title in Florida. I pay about $550/year to insure my FZ10 and HD Road Glide Ultra through USAA insurance (Progressive underwrites). Your choice of bikes is way cool; can’t go wrong with any! They are pretty diverse as far as riding styles. I would suggest lots of thought on what type of riding you want to do most. I love my FZ for it’s comfortable ergos combined with raw grunt. It’s pretty darn versatile. I commute daily, search for fun roads on weekends, ride from Florida to Louisiana every 3-4 weeks (400 miles), and have taken it to the track in New Orleans. My plan this year is to sell the Harley and pick up a true superbike (leftover CBR/Gxr/Zx) Happy Hunting!

How does the bike perform for track days? ( I intend to use it as a backup in case my zx6r is unavailable)

Well, it all depends on your level of aggression, but all I can tell you is it'd touch a lot earlier than a super or hyper sport bike. You can replace the peg feelers with shorter ones if you ride solo (what I did), or remove them, to gain quite a bit of cornering clearance without having to do anything else. That was enough limitation for me on the streets for safety, without having to change the ergos, which is why I bought it in the first place . To make it a decent track bike, it'd need rearsets, lowering handlebar (or clip-ons), better brakes, better suspension, and a windscreen... and you'd still be redline limited to 155 or so. An expensive proposition that makes no sense when an R1 is available, so depending what you want out of a bike, run numbers and decide which makes more economic sense . Good luck.

How does the bike perform for track days? ( I intend to use it as a backup in case my zx6r is unavailable) I've owned several dedicated track bikes. I like my FZ-10 at the track, but it needs rear sets for sure. I got some adjustable ones so I can still be comfortable on the street, but that might not matter to you depending on your height and inseam. The OEM suspension is great for OEM, after some adjustments for the track.
One note on the Ninja 300 for a track bike: IMHO learning on a small displacement sport bike will teach you how to use cornering speed and will make you a better, faster rider. I would love to have one for the track.
My dealer had a used FZ-10, under 10k miles for under 10K. The bike was dialed too. If I didn't already have one, I would have snagged it.

Thanks. I had a ninja 300 track bike but moved on to the zx6r for better suspension. I didn't want to throw more money on the 300. That some great feedback on the MT-10. Do you know if 15+ R1 rearsets can be used for the MT-10?
