Well, it didn't go as well as I wanted. It was not her first time on a motorcycle since she ride with me on my Fat Boy lo last year and the year before. The thing is, she's scared to fall behind the bike. It doesn't matter how slow I go, how careful I am with the throttle, or the fact that she put her arms around me to hold herself better, she's still afraid. My Harley had a backrest and it probably helped. I don't really want a top case for the -10 so she can have a kind of barrier, but I think I won't have a choice if I want her to ride with me again. Unless someone has a better idea. I knew that the fz-10 isn't a great 2-up motorcycle before buying it, but I thought it could be good to do small ride (1h) like we did before. Anyone use the -10 for occasional small ride with a passenger?

I have done several rides with my girlfriend on the back, she is about 5'8 so her legs are high up. She is not a fan of it either but she'll ride once in a while on the back.. but she also has her own bike.

I really hope my wife would want to ride on a motorcycle of her own. She told me it's not gonna happen.

That's her decision, don't force her or everyone will be unhappy.

My wife has complained about sliding back on every bike I owned for 14 years. I learned early on to always have two bikes. One for two up riding and one for hauling ass. The complaints stopped when I put a detachable tour pack on my Road Glide. Riding up to the blue ridge parkway or Key West was no problem now that she feels supported. We've been caught is FL down pours and she was unphased plus the extra room is nice on long hauls.
If she rides a lot, tell her you're buying a second bike for her....lol... A guys gotta do what a guys gotta do...
Happy wife, happy life.

My wife rides horses and hates motorcycles. When I was young, that kinda bothered me. But then I figured out that horses are her thing, bikes are my thing. I enjoy riding without her, cause it's my thing. She enjoys riding horses, without me, cause that's her thing.
At night, we meet up at home and are thankful that we both love each other enough to let each other do our own things. Then I get some nooky! Lol

I'll start giving her hints about the need of a second bike. I don't think I'll win this one. But maybe one day. Still undecided about that backrest though. Maybe I'll give it a try. It's cheaper than a second bike and I can remove it when I ride solo.

Putting my wife (petite) on the back of my bike is liken to putting a cat in a bath tub... the hard fact is that I do not trust her to not freak out in the case of anything stressful. So I do not have the problem. My daughter is 18 (more petite) and she likes to ride with me on occasion but not on the FZ yet. I don't think the FZ is a 2up bike, those rear sets are as useful as "tits on a boar hog" as they say.....IMO!

my son will be on a 50cc in no time and I've got a quad already lined up. You know what that means.... bye Harley, hello Yamaha raptor/wr250r If you plan the right bike for the right purpose, the stars align for planting the seed for years of fun.

On the FZ10 . Com site there is a member with the name YammyBoy that has replaced both his footpegs, seat, and has a rear case and has mentioned that this has made it very comfortable for a passenger.

daveinwoodland I separated out the reference to an outside questionable site to avoid auto linking in your post. In the future please just reference it as the .com site, or something similar to avoid edits. Not trying to censor you at all, we just don't want to open up our users to questionable content. It seems the domain has been parked, so it's a preventative measure at this point in time.

My wife dropped out of motorcycle beginners training put on by Road America. She also road behind me one time with a clear desire to go no faster than 25 mph. So, no riding or passenger time ever planned in her future.
The plus side of going through this unsuccessful attempt to include her demonstrates your desire to share what you love to do. Offering that option gains a huge amount of support for you to continue riding. It actually presents other opportunities later on. If she wants to watch a romantic chic flick, you can decline saying she can go ahead and watch it, but you'd rather not
I have a great marriage where we both respect our choices to do things independently that only one of us wants to do.
If your wife doesn't want to ride, support her decision. Feeling the way she does makes it highly unlikely that she would enjoy it.

I convinced the wife to ride along. Popped a wheelie to show off. Afterward she asked if I could hear her screaming... "I could have fallen off!" To which I replied... "No sweety. No danger of that. You were squeezing me so tight I couldn't breath in. Therefore I knew you weren't going anywhere." She was not amused. (Actually she was... but only slightly, with hindsight and a glass of wine) And now... I have a seat cowl.
