Hi everybody, pick up my fz10 today and got sticker shock for moto insurance $1,300 /year! Keep in mind I am 51 with clean driving record here in bay area California , quote is with geico. The funny thing is I have a 2016 Aprilia tuono 1100 rr and its about half that $600/ year for same coverage, asked guy if he screwed up and quoted for r1 instead of fz10 and he double checked and said it was correct. Is this normal? Guys must be crashing the fz10 everywhere! Love the bike so will bite the bullet for now, anybody know a lower rate for 2017 fz10? Thanks and have a great ride - Jim

DAiryland is another one to check out if they are active in your state. Geico is damn expensive now.

State Farm (Indiana) was the cheapest quote for me (full coverage). It was still pretty high but I am also 32. I was only able to get it under $100/month if I went with a $1-2k deductible.

$52 a month for my FZ10... But $64 per month for my 2016 R1S. I'm 41 with no accidents and 20 years of motorcycle riding with a clean record. The thing that pisses me off is back in 2007 I switched from Nationwide Insurance to State Farm and when I did that I had a 2006 Yamaha R1. They quoted me $189 a year for full coverage on the R1 which I absolutely loved! A few years later I got a 2009 Yamaha R1 after not riding for a couple years because we had a baby and then they jumped me up to $47 per month. Why I am getting this increase is beyond me and I can't get a straight answer from them. How I miss the years of under $200 a year for full coverage!

I’m at the point now that I am ready to buy me a 2018 MT-10 matte gray. Before buying I wanna make sure what insurance is going to cost me. Did some checking around and got a few quotes from different companies. I’m 42 live 60 miles south of Houston Tx close to the Gulf of Mexico in a small town of 11,000. I have perfect driving record and the best I could find was thru progressive. Full coverage with $1000 deductibles $364yr. Full coverage $500 deductibles $495yr. Think I can live with that.

The rates have many factors involved, which include the number of claims made on a specific model(crash rate, theft, total loss claims), also where you live and how you store your bike, your driving record, and also your credit rating, more than likely the difference between the Aprilia and Yamaha comes down to the data the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety(data bank and testing facility for insurance companies)has collected and it is probably better for the Aprilia than it is for the Yamaha. I often tell my agent which I have been insured with for close to 30 yrs, you are nothing more than a bookie, you're betting I'm not going to have a claim and I'm betting I'm going to have one, the odds are in the companies favor, the house always wins.
I insure through Progressive, I have had Dairyland, Geico, Rider, and now Progressive, Rider more than doubled their rates 3 or 4 years ago, I called my agent, and she was able to get me a good rate through Progressive, I have a clean record, excellent credit, and I live in a low theft, rural area. I started off insuring 4 bikes, the oldest which was an 05 GSXR 750(highest rate) and 3 Triumphs. When I was looking to buy an FZ10, before I ever committed to a purchase, I checked the rate of coverage, I still insure 4 bikes( maximum for a policy with Progressive), and my rate went up about $300 more for the Yamaha. It is still reasonable and I carry their highest liability limits because I also have an umbrella policy that requires me to do so. We live in a litigious world these days so you better have plenty of coverage or if something happens, you might lose personal assets, and my wife and I worked hard to obtain a good standard of living, I don't want to lose assets if I'm ever in litigation. What I pay is much less than most of what you pay but I will be 59 in November this year, I'm sure that with the factors involved helps keep my rate reasonable.

^^^^^ Right on. There are way too many variables in insurance to make any general comments whether one person's quote is reasonable or not. As always, shop around. I've been told by other agents that they usually can't beat Progressive, they have the market well figured out. But that doesn't mean there aren't other insurers that can sometimes beat them.
One of the biggest drivers of insurance is the collision coverage which covers you if you collide with something like a car or tree, or if you throw your toy down the road because you couldn't handle that 40 mph curve at 80 mph. My view is if I crash and wad up the bike that's on me and I'll take the liability for that. Other people want that coverage and that's fine, but look what it is costing you. It is expensive. But I've never had a collision claim in 42 years of riding.
Comprehensive covers everything else (theft, vandalism, fire, weather, etc) and that is usually pretty cheap. It also includes $3000 coverage for accessories. Where I live deer and other animals are the biggest hazard for the kind of riding I do, and that is covered under comprehensive. I'm more likely to collide with Bambi than a soccer-mom in her Toyota Highlander. Was out today and saw three dead deer alongside the road.
I carry Liability at the highest amount for that is where you are really vulnerable, so 250/500/100 is mandatory, imo. Plus Umbrella coverage to protect your ass-ets.
I pay $140 per year with Progressive ($90 liability, $40 comprehensive ($500 deduct), and $10 for Roadside Assistance), that's a very reasonable cost to provide me the coverage I feel I need. In my opinion Americans tend to overinsure and they pay the cost. Rethink your insurance and you can probably save some coin.

In Northen California, best rate I could find was State Farm, 1100 a year. Was quoted everything from 2400 to 3200 (Geico) and laughed at that. I had State Farm previously for my Ducati and it was even cheaper then but for some reason companies have the FZ-10 on a high list. And I'm 60, perfect record.

Interesting thing happened to me, I got my insurance renewal this year and the insurance on my FZ went down $300. It was originally $1200 to which I thought was a mistake and way too expensive compared to other bikes I've insured. Sometimes it seems that insurances misclassify bikes when they are new. Not sure if this was the case but $900 seems a little more acceptable than $1200 in my 30s with a clean record. Hopefully some of you with State Farm see the same decrease.

I have 2 bikes(cruisers) insured with geico at $535 full coverage for the year. They quoted me $1100 if i dropped one cruiser and added the FZ-10. That is insane!! I went onto progressives site and they quoted me $425 full coverage for the FZ and 1 cruiser for the year. The FZ by itself was $363. Not bad!
Mike
By they way im picking up the FZ this tuesday its a 17 leftover. This is my first post to the forum and my first hyper naked bike. Last sport bike i had was a cbr1000rr which i got rid of about 3 yrs ago.

Got my new renewal bill from Progressive today.....my annual coverage dropped from $140/yr last year to $112/yr now, same coverage. Not sure why the total rate went down by 20%, but not complaining. Liability at 250/500/100, Comprehensive with $500 deductible, and Towing Assistance.
