Hello all, I've been lurking and just purchased my FZ-10 and am having issues with registering the bike with DMV. I'll spare you the long story but basically I'm required to have it physically inspected as if it were an out-of-state vehicle since I bought it "new" but not from a dealer who takes care of the paperwork on their end normally.
The problem is the inspection guy won't pass me because there is no visible, physical 50 state emissions sticker on the bike. I'm 100 % sure its a Cali model, its titled under the model # for the California model and I called Yamaha and they verified. I called a buddy that just purchased one from a dealer, he cannot find an emissions sticker either.
Have any of you run across any emissions stickers on your bikes? Where are they located?
I even checked the manual that has a section for the relevant labels that are on the bike and the manual indicates there's some stickers for the hose routing for the California Model Charcoal Canister under the tank, but no mention of an emissions sticker anywhere on the bike.
I already called Yamaha and they are going to send me a letterhead indicating its a California model, but I would love to know if there is or is not a Emissions sticker that I am not seeing. I'm technically going to become late with registration cause of this issue and subject to penalties because of this stupid situation.

Try another inspector, he sounds like he is being a little unreasonable, I don't think there is an emission sticker on the bike, but the VIN would tell. They should have the ability to query a database. Or just wait for the Yamaha document.
I believe the sticker under the seat which has the model number would indicate if it is a CA bike, but you would need to know what the CA model number is. That is probably what the Yamaha document will tell you.

The only 3 information stickers on my bike do not contain any emissions information.

Have you tried calling the dealer you bought it from ? Or did you buy it used?

Ok so Yamaha was kind enough to issue me a letter on their letterhead confirming it is a California model. I should be receiving that within the week but next DMV appointment isn't until June 6 so I have a while to wait to find out if I'll be ok. We are severely backlogged in DMV because we like giving driver's licenses to Illegals.
As far as I can tell, and confirming with 2 other FZ-10 models, there are NO emissions stickers on the bike. So if another unfortunate soul that lives in the communist state of California falls upon this post while searching in the future, prepare to deal with this.
Cruizin, thanks for the welcome. As I said in my opening post, I did not get the bike from a dealer who would normally take care of this for me. Long story short, got it from a person who knows a person with Yamaha. Used demo bike basically, but brand new on paper as far as title (MCO) and registration go. Which is why I'm having to go through this.

This story backs up their horror stories about the Cali state govt.

Yeah, welcome, and all that stuff. Lived in CA in 1994 for a year and it was great, but that was well before it went all communist. Some great motorcycling roads and the weather is usually great.
As long as you got a good deal on the FZ-10 going through a little registration hassle will be worth it. Once you have it registered you won't have any other problems in subsequent years.

welcome, RedAndBlack. next time you go to the inspection guy, take the manual with you and show him the section for the relevant labels.
enjoy the new bike. as long as you can ride it fairly civilly (a long shot, I know), throw a plate on it and take it out anyway!
regards, Tony
