I'm sure drooling over the Austin Racing exhaust. Can anyone else in Cali give me any insight into the ACTUAL risk involved? How likely are fines or other penalties to be incurred riding around in this lovely state?

This may, or may not help you....
My AR GP1R is 98db at idle Stationary 5500rpm rev, with the DB reader 1 meter from the exhaust (standard track noise test) its around 111-112db
I have fitted a baffle as i would like to do some track days, not got exact DB readings but its about a 4db drop in noise

Thanks Grant. Are you loving the GP1? The sound level is better than I thought. Also, is there a track standard these days for sound levels? I'm still a little worried about california bureaucracy cracking down and fining riders for illegal aftermarket exhaust.

Depends on your whereabouts in the world... for example in the UK, a "noisy" trackday is around 105db at 5500rpm for a il4 engine.

How likely are fines or other penalties to be incurred riding around in this lovely state? There aren't motorcycle inspections here in California so LEO's are expected to oversee compliance with motorcycle sound emissions while doing everyday enforcement. My understanding based on some discussions in LEO forums is that if we're behaving, we'll most likely be left alone.

I'm out in California now. Still have the stock exhaust on my -10. Not sure I want all the noise. I think I have more hooligan time fun when it's quieter, as in my twisted little mind thinks that nobody knows what I'm doing if my exhaust is quiet. Probably piss off less people too. I don't really care about them personally, but they all carry cell phones...

I really don't see the point of running an exhaust that is loud and obnoxious. With earplugs in and a full face helmet I really don't care what the exhaust sounds like, the performance is what matters. Most of the sound clips of various setups are too loud and raspy for my taste, and I actually think the stock Ti can is one of best looking on any factory bike, and it certainly has an acceptable sound. I live in an area where a lot of motorcycles pass through on the weekend, when I hear some clown running a straight pipe Harley and blipping it at a stop light I want to go over and knock him off the bike. And don't even get me started on the silly 'loud pipes save lives' argument.

Stock exhaust is great if you are trying to sneak up on somebody, They might not see the bright ass wheels or the terrible looking stock exhaust you have Motorcycles are loud get over it

Go for it dude i'm in a big motorcycle group and the majority of the bikes are as loud as mine and we don't get pulled over for it. (Some don't even have mufflers) One of my friends got pulled over last week she was running straight pipes on her Gsxr. First time this has happened to one of us in years. Cop said he only pulled her over because its motorcycle awareness month in our city. (Give bikers extra tickets) Shitty part was she just got her new exhaust at home waiting to be put on. TLDR: Buy the exhaust and keep the RPM's down if there is a cop nearby. Very little risk

It isn't a silencer at all. To meet sound you need to install the (The power removing insert) runs terrible but at least you can still ride

Laguna seca is very strict on sound. Most the others in Ca would allow the AR exhaust
