Hey everyone... Just bought my FZ 2 weeks ago. It was by accident I even looked at this bike. 2 years ago I purchased a 15 R1 and 1 week later I was hit by a tractor-trailer at an intersection. The bike was totaled and my back and hips were injured. It took a long time to consider getting another bike as well as serious work on my wife to say yes.
I was positive I wanted another R1 as I've been riding nothing but sport bikes my entire 17 year motorcycling history. I bought a new 16' R1 about 2 months ago and did a few things to it before taking it to be dyno tuned. While at the tuning shop I sat on a new Suzuki GSXS1000 and was amazed how comfortable I was on it. No pressure on my back, arms, or hands. I'm 40 years old and between that and my accident... I have my fair share of aches and pains! Anyway, I started researching the Suzuki even though I've been a Yamaha fan my entire riding career... And fortunately I discovered many comparison articles including the unknown to me FZ10!
I was so happy to find that bike and all the awesome reviews! I set up a test ride at Pine Grove Yamaha and was sold in 10 minutes!
It was tough convincing my wife to allow me to get a 2nd bike in only a few weeks after buying the R1. Lol! Anyway I now own both and couldn't be happier! The R1 is being neglected though... I can't stay away from the FZ. I'm dealing with a little buyers remorse on the R1 even though it's an amazing machine... My age is showing a lot and while speed and sport riding are very much a part of my life... The full on sport bike days may be soon coming to an end and I may sell the R1.
We'll see!

I love my FZ-10 and it's everything that I want it to be but there are days where I miss being on a true sport bike with low clip-ons and high pegs in that forward lean position. I had a sport bike previously and you always want something that you don't have. If I got a sport bike now, I would no doubt miss the FZ-10. Since you have the FZ-10 and R1, you have speed and comfort

Welcome. I'm 47 and I had to give up the low clip ons. Back and wrists couldn't take it anymore. Grats on the 10 and enjoy the R1 when you can

nice. I am in same boat. I have rode sport bikes my entire life. Usually have multiple bikes and picked up an fz09 as a spare last couple years. Found myself riding it more than anything. No sure why exactly but I realized how much I love riding all over again. So the next purchase had to the 10.

I got a Gen 2 FZ1 about 6 months after I started riding and have kept it since. During that time I tried the sportbike thing, first with a GSX-R750 and then an R6. I quickly found out that by the time I got to roads worth riding on I was just done riding altogether. I rode the FZ1 a lot more than the GSX-R so I sold it within a year. A few years later I forgot this, I got an R6, and also sold it within a year. I did take the R6 on the track a few times and it was perfect for that!
Maybe take the R1 to the track or turn it in and get a used bike for track? Or sell the R1 and mod the eff out of the FZ10 so you don't even miss it.

jbodiedas,
welcome to the forum! enjoy the -10, it's a fun bike that's comfortable and fills the need to get my lean on. can't wait to take it to the track.
as far as your R1, I'd have to concur with smanz, either keep it for the track and the odd blast, or get a track only bike. at 53, I still love riding my '02 Ducati 998, it's just that I only ride it for about an hour and I have to take a break! it's perfect for the track, though... 20 minutes on at full tilt, then 40 minutes off, relaxing.
regards, Tony
