I will go more into detail if requested... I rode years ago then suffered a spinal injury, my doc cleared me to ride again and since I always wanted a sport bike I went looking. Having not ridden in almost 10 years I was concerned about ergos and power. I decided on a 09 Ninja 650r, the ergos were perfect the positioning was aggressive when wanted but I could sit up straight and even lean back if I wanted. Well after about 8 months it was time to move up and I thought I was getting a FZ-10 but while visiting it for the hundredth time I saw a bike I could not look away from and brought her home. A 2016 R1M/R1RC, it had 1,100 miles, Graves exhaust, hot cam, every add on you could get, ECU flash and had been dyno tuned with the spec sheet. I love this bike but still have the "want" for the FZ-10. Let me say there is a HUGE difference coming from the 650r and jumping onto a R1M. I hope I can hang out here and find out all the things you guys have to offer on the FZ-10 so I can make the decision with some user input. Thanks guys.

Welcome and congratulations on the R1M. That's a monster machine for sure. Getting to know the crossplane 4 should give you an appreciation for the street friendly version in the FZ-10. Not to mention the strong chassis and aggresive wheelbase.
Sounds like your spine is a non-issue. That's really good to hear.
The only other streetbike that stacks up to the FZ-10 is the Tuono V4. Pros and cons comparing the two. Riding both, I would give the edge to the Tuono. The major plus to the FZ-10 though is dealer network and reliability history. Yamaha has that in spades.

If you are enjoying the R1M and the riding position is not causing you any problems I see no real reason to get an FZ-10. Except for the more comfortable ergos of the FZ-10 the R1M is just a better performing vehicle. If you love the R1M what is your rationale for an FZ-10? If it is a replacement bike I probably wouldn't do it if you are happy with the R1M and can tolerate the ergos, if it is a companion bike for days when you don't want the full bore sport bike experience it has a lot to offer.
Welcome aboard.

I'd have to put the s1kr in that stack thou, IMHO

I test rode an S1000R. That tiny triangular wind deflector worked amazingly well. Loved the build quality, power and looks, but not the ride. It was super stiff, even with dynamic damping, it was an absolute torture machine on bumps. I had everything set for the softest ride and that didn't help. People who have great road surfaces wouldn't have that problem. It also had a lot of serious engine vibes. The higher the rpms, the worse it got.
The engines on the V4 and crossplane 4 totally won me over, They both not only sound great, but feel great as well. V-twins and conventional inline fours just have the wrong vibes for me. Some people are fine with that, but not me. And, you are correct, some love the S1000R.

Well I didn't really love it either. I had the same complaint with the suspension but what stood out the most for me was I was uncomfortable. For me, the position was too forward. I have trouble with my hands getting numb quick and more pressure = shorter time to tingling. Many have complained like you about the vibes, the X1000R too. Maybe this was also affecting my hands but think it would've been a problem w/o vibes. I owned an '09 K1000S that I had some other more serious complaints with, namely shifting. It sounded like an HD in the first 3 gears and I hated it. The S1k shifted like a sewing machine even w/o using the QS. What both bikes had in common for me was the uncomfortable position and pressure on the bars. I sold the K after 3 years w 2k miles on it. After ruling that out I went to the Yammy dealer to look at the 10. The more standard position and flatter bars made me think I'd found the bike especially since it had cruise and ABS, must haves for me. But, I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. Overall I like the bike and the way it looks but stuck in procrastination mode. The weather in the NE has been no incentive either. Mean while, I lurk the forum(s) and see what owners have to say.
