I doubt you can just get the TFT display and put it on. It will need a new ECU, and the ohlins supsension with the IMU. That unfortunately makes sense. The suspension and display could be justified, but it's tough to spend the money on an ecu.

So the SP has cornering ABS/TC??? That'd be awesome. Also don't understand why not sell it in the largest market, but happens with cars as well.

It does not have cornering abs/Tc. It doesn't have an imu. It has a suspension control unit, which is different to an imu

Why is USA lagging behind with FZ-10/MT-10 releases? Europe has the MT-10 SP available right now, and their 2017 MT-10 will be coming standard with quick-shifter and a small re-tuning. I know I would personally like to get the MT-10 SP, but there has been 0 news in regards to it coming to the USA. Any thoughts?

I believe it's been addressed in this topic: the demand isn't here, or at least that's the perception. The fz10 doesn't seem to sell well enough as it exists, and the market for track bikes (to which sp features are tailored) is fulfilled by race replicas in the US. I really wish the color display were an option here because I'm a big fan of the look.

I doubt you can just get the TFT display and put it on. It will need a new ECU, and the ohlins supsension with the IMU. ...plus it will need new handlebar switch gear as that is what operates the TFT dash. It is not even close to being an easy retro project.

I seem to be in the minority in that I DO want the SP version! Don't get me wrong; I absolutely love my '17 FZ-10, especially in the black!! However, not only do I want the TFT display, but I would love to have the semi active Ohlins suspension (as well as up & down quickshifter). I love Yamaha products in general, and have a certain degree of brand loyalty, but by next year, if an MT-10 SP is not available WITH THE SAME LEVEL OF UPGRADES as the European counterpart is, KTM may very well be selling yet another 1290 Superduke R or GT. Let THAT factor into Yamaha's arcane accounting methodology...

I really think yamaha has some dolt in the corporate structure that just says, well just give it a speed/power limiter and itll sell. Not sure why they do this. Its somewhat baffling. If yamaha made something along the lines of a retro type standard with this engine unbound up itd rule the sales charts. But no, someone over there playing pokemon just doesnt get it. Ive finallygot mine right where i want it. If i knew when putting money down they were gonna neuter it i wouldnt have bought it. Just stupid.

The quest to find an answer as to why the USA does not get the SP model has resulted in multiple threads, making it somewhat like the search for the holy grail. As an outsider (from Australia anyway) here is my opinion as to one reason why this might be the case.
It has nothing to do with the motorcycle riding population, we have an SP model in OZ and we a population less than Texas and NZ has about 4 million. It is my theory that the USA are protecting their motorcycle manufacturers the same way they protect their car manufacturers.
You guys have far less choice with imported car models over there compared to down here. Consequently it killed off our three car manufacturing plants which have all closed and we no longer produce motor vehicles, ZERO. We don't have any motorcycle manufacturers for other countries to compete against.
In short, it is probably a decision made by your government, not Yamaha, to put a limit on various models entering the USA to protect local manufacturers, something we in Australia failed miserably at doing. Nowadays instead of having cars manufactured by an Australian motor company like Holden Monaro, we have a major influx of Mustangs.
PS. I bought the standard model MT10 about 16 months ago, having the decision again I would have bought the SP as the value of the extras, i.e.: suspension etc would have been well worth the dollars. Having said that, SP or standard this is still one helluva piece of machinery.
