I was going to do a large write up of this, but because it is SO EASY to do I am going to post the supplied instructions and give a few tips. This is a 20 minute job at worst. Tools needed: 2 10mm box end wrenches 3/4 6mm allen head socket 3/4 Ratchet TIPS: 1. Slide both rubber boots out of the way so you can get an accurate measurement from center nut to center nut. When installing the shift rod and sensor, alight, set and lock the 27.4mm nut first between the sensor and gear arm. Next thread the top of the rod into the sensor and get it started about 2 turns. Then start the bottom of the rod into the shift lever. As you tighten it will move the shifter lever position for the 274mm (27.4cm) overall length. Once set use one of the 10mm wrenches to hold the rod (you will see a cut out) and the other 10mm wrench to lock the nuts down tight. The rest is self explanatory in the directions. If you do not have a tune (FW tune should already have it turned on) on the bike you will need to use page 4 to turn on the QS function on the ECU. While riding you need to be above 12.5 mph or 2000 rpm to use the QS upshift. You do not need to let off the gas to upshift. Even under full throttle it will instantly shift. This is an upgrade that is well worth the money.

I need to get one of these ordered. It's well worth the $200.00. After riding this around it makes me want to get the auto blipper now.

Does it work on downshifts too?

Does it work on downshifts too? No only on upshift. FTECU does make an auto blipper for $800.00 (and you need their tune installed) that is relatively plug-n-play. (Have to remove 1 ECU wire and replace with theirs)

Pulled the trigger on my first mod... I unfortunately realized I sent it to my old address after hitting the purchase button. I went with the GYTR one on eBay since I couldn't find it anywhere for $200 other than it. I immediately messaged the seller. Hopefully I can get it sent to my new place. ***Edit/Update: Incredibly responsive seller got it sorted quickly so I can still get it on the 18th. Stoked as fvck. Def using this write-up. ***Edit/Update: I've got it installed, but one thing that needs to be mentioned is that 0002s 's write-up is for the MT QS kit. It's pretty much the same except that the GYTR US kit is made to include R1's. This means there's one extra step, cutting the clutch rod provided. As you can see in @bogie 's post the rod has 3 notches at either end. The end that does not have the wrench hold dimples (bottom set to be cut, in the image) will need to be cut at the center notch. The instructions say to use a hacksaw.... pfft I didn't trust myself with a hacksaw cutting an expensive part so I took it to the dealer and had it cut for $17usd. Just something to keep in mind, make sure to read the instructions with what ever kit you decide to purchase. COME ON SPRING!!!!

Correct. I bought the MT-10 kit from a European dealer. They cost the same in converted USD as the R1.

I was wondering why everyone was saying to cut the shift rod. I didn't have to do that at all. But mine only said was for the fz10 and never mentions R1 anywhere. Who knows??? thanks for the clarification.

Who knows??? thanks for the clarification. Lucky you I installed mine just the other day and had to cut it at the bottom middle mark but luckily the instructions that came with mine gave an exact measurement of 10. 75 inches length which made it a lot easier for me and my add.

Oddly enough mine also came in a Yamaha box similar to an oil filter. I panicked when I first saw it and thought no way the shift rod was included. So strange its packaged differently. Guess that's the difference between the fz10 only and the R1/fz10 option.

Oddly enough mine also came in a Yamaha box similar to an oil filter. I panicked when I first saw it and thought no way the shift rod was included. So strange its packaged differently. Guess that's the difference between the fz10 only and the R1/fz10 option. It seems the USA is one of the only markets that sells the YZF-R1S version which is $2,000 less than the 'standard' YZF-R1. The lower price is obviously to attract more people to the R1 family. Consequently some items have been omitted on the 'S' version, one of them being the Quick Shifter. So Yamaha USA sells the QS so it will fit either the R1S or the FZ-10, but the lengths for the shift rod are different between the two models due to footpeg (shift pedal) placement, hence the need to cut the rod to fit the application. That is easily done with a hacksaw blade in about 5 minutes. In the rest of the world it is sold just for the FZ-10 and they provide the correct rod length right out of the box. In the end you end up in the same place.
