Check your clutch cable length. In a full left turn, the cable is being dragged across the fork pivot point and is abrading the cable sheathing. Mine has a guide hook on the right side where the cable should be routed, but the cable is too short to reach the hook. We should have our dealers take this back to Yamaha for a recall to install a longer cable. One owner on the MT-10 forum already has a split in the sheathing from rubbing on the frame. I'll be taking mine in as soon as weather permits.

Just checked my US bike (build date 08/16) and everything looks ok. The clutch cable is within the clip and at full left lock there isn't any issue although the cable is a little tight, but I don't see any wear on the cable sheath. Perhaps your cable is misrouted or hanging up on something. Or maybe they realized they had an issue on the early run of bikes (MY 2016 which were sold in markets other than the US) and started using a longer cable. Thanks for the heads up.

FWIW just looked at all our new FZ-10s on the floor. The clutch cable is through the clip but is very tight at full left lock. These bikes are new with zero miles and all of them are showing various stages of wear on the cable sheathing which is worrisome for not having been ridden. Some have slight markings from rubbing where others have a pretty good dent/grove rubbed into the sheathing. Ill have to check mine when i get home and see if it is any different/worse with some miles on it. Thanks for the heads up too!

Checked the cable on my bike which has a little over 3k miles. Absolutely no signs of contact/rubbing on the cable. I have adjusted the bars forward some. I wonder if it is more of a set up issue? Maybe the bars are being positioned too low on the ones showing contact on the cable causing the cable to be too tight?? The Yamaha rep was here so i asked him about it. He said he had not heard about any issues with the clutch cable but would gladly look into it. Ill report back if/when i hear from him.

One of the posters on the MT-10 forum noticed all the slack was in the bottom half of the cable and pushed his back up giving him clearance on top. Checked mine and the necessary slack was down below. I pulled the cable up with both hands and everything looks good now. I believe over time it could wiggle its way back down and start rubbing again up above. I'll be checking it from time to time and pulling it back up if need be. Plastic spiral wrap would be good back up protection from rubbing if the cable does slide back down.

I have noticed this too. I have pulled up before and after time seems to go back down. Just keep checking and pulling.

I got to thinking about that. The cable appears to pass through a very small hole (guide) from the upper half to lower half of the bike. Maybe a plastic tie wrap pulled really tight around it just above the guide hole would keep it fro sliding down. I can't verify until riding a bunch of miles this spring, but I'll lock one on right away for future observation.
