I am looking for a replacement for my 99 R1100S. I've narrowed it down to three bikes. I like the Kawi 1000 ninja, Suzuki 1000F, and the FZ10. The FZ10 and Kawi are the front runners right now. No bags for the Suzuki kinda rules that one out. The Kawi is the most rounded out sport tourer out of the crate. I love what I'm reading about the FZ10 ,but the front fairing sucks, and the colors are not winning me over. I can settle for the semi hard bags , like the cruise control, damn that face .Yamaha has done such a good job on the R1 (looks Italian). Why only one low beam. I want cars to see me.
So I'll have to get some test rides and go from there. Maybe 2018 will bring a new front end.

Welcome to the forum. You can go wrong with any of them. Of course we'll be bias here. LOL

I think you definitely need some seat time in the Ninja 1000 before you buy one. I don't know if Kawasaki addressed it by now but footpeg vibration was pretty bad in the Kawi I4's. The Z1000 had it, the Ninja 1000 had seat, handlebar and footpeg vibration from what I've heard. I had a 2013 ZX6R before and the footpeg vibration on that bike could become so bad that my feet would go numb and I would have to constantly adjust and wiggle my toes to get blood flowing. The FZ-10 doesn't have any vibration issues although the stock seat isn't as soft as I would like, I could ride in it all day. This is the FZ-10 forums so my vote obviously goes to the Yamaha

Welcome Jagger.
Love my FZ-10. I test road most other similar models (but not the Kawi) and found the one enormous difference to be the crossplane four. As previously noted, it's so smooooooth. The conventional inline fours all seem to produce a major buzz somewhere which gets worse, the higher the rpms go. I don't like it on singles or twins either. My Triumph Triple and FZ-09 triples were smooth. The Aprilia V4 is also smooth. I find that invaluable in riding satsfaction. Regarding headlights, I run both bright and dim in all of my daytime riding on all of my bikes and have never been flashed. Besides balancing the symmetry, it also makes you less invisible. And the radical front design? I liked it immediately, but have read other posts that said they hated it at first, but the more they ride it, the more they like the look. Different can be a good thing. Regarding colors, Yamaha typically provides new choices every model year.
Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the info guys. Soon as it warms up a little I'll need to get a demo ride.
The good thing is you cant see the front end from the seat.

The fairing on the FZ-10 is an easy fix. I wouldn't let that sway your decision. I'm using the Ermax tall and it was only about $100. It's been working great.

I also considered all those options before choosing the FZ-10. May be a bit biased at this point but I felt that the FZ-10 offered the best overall package. The looks are definitely personal preference and for some an acquired taste. Good Luck with your decision and be sure to test ride the options if you can.
