The problem with GoPro video, even with the new cameras, is that you mostly get audio wind noise and cannot hear the sweat sound of the exhaust. Here is a simple and cheap solution to this problem. This video shows a few 1st 2nd speed runs and highway speed exhaust notes. It shows the results under different road and acceleration conditions. The day I recorded this was extremely windy. This will work under all wind conditions at all speeds. The audio edits were only a very slight background noise reduction and an very slight equalizer boost in the bass. Video was shot with a GoPro Hero 3+. Hope this helps your video and audio results. Here is what you need past a GoPro camera (or any action camera with a microphone out) and the mount of your choice for the bike. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F8QTOBQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CNAUYBY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1This is my tank mount with the microphone mounted underneath the license plate bracket. The microphone wire is run underneath the seat and is not in the way. The wind noise is completely blocked out and all you hear is l/r audio from the exhaust notes. The microphone is attached with a small piece of velcro and a velcro cable wrap.

Thank you. Hopefully we will get some great video/audio from the hive in the future. I have a few runs I'm going to use this set up for in a few weeks.

I am getting the Hero 5. I want to run the 3+ on the rear low and the 5 on the tank. With the mic setup this should make for some interesting edits. A Session on the front fork would be interesting as well.

I bought that same mic based on this post, but for whatever reason, it doesn't work with my Tomtom Bandit camera. I need to find a different mic or just dump the Tomtom. I'm not a fan of the special connector Tomtom uses anyway, or the $24 cable that's made for it.
I bought the camera for work because it's size let's me place it in tight spots inside the fan cowl door of jet engines. It works great for that, but external audio isn't its strong suit. Several people have complained on the Tomtom site that wind noise inside a motorcycle helmet prevented Video blogging at speed.
I don't want another $300-500 expense, so I need to find a good option.

GoPro's new Hero 5 and 5 Session require a special adapter as well. My Hero 3+ does not require a special adapter.

I purchased the TomTom Bandit also - I had two of them and ended up taking them back as they both had SD card errors (I tried 6 different cards - even a couple of their recommended ones) Pity as the Bandit was the perfect fit for my helmet and it worked really, really well - when it worked. I just couldn't rely on it to stay working. I ended up buying in to one of these instead: Revl Arc. Should be shipped in August.

Hey there: I know this thread is old, but I recently followed the advice of 0002s and purchased the mic and cable that he recommended. There are a couple of problems with that set up on a GoPro 5; using an external mic causes popping and clicking issues, and the mic he recommended is way too sensitive for the camera and application. You can hear every tick of the motor, drive train lash, rock flung off the rear tire, etc. It was so bad. After much trial and error, I have what I feel is a great solution with excellent sound if you have a GoPro 5. The camera is mounted on top of the gauge cluster, just behind the windscreen. I'm using the GoPro external mic adapter ($48 on Amazon), and the DJI external mic installed in the tail of the bike. Connecting the two is the 3.5mm extension cable that 0002s recommended, but it has a ferrite core cable filter on it which kills the popping and clicking that everyone complains about. The cable is running under the tank and the seat to the very back of the bike, under the seat and behind the taillight. No cords showing, and full protection for the mic from the elements. All the rumble; none of the wind! As soon as it's not monsooning here, I'll post up a video in the twisties and see how it really sounds.

I don't get the popping and clicking from any of my GoPro (Hero5 / Sessions5 / Sessions / 3+) when hooked up to the microphone.

The popping and clicking is a known issue with the GP5. Also, what are you using for video editing to get rid of the background noise that you mentioned in your first post?

Final Cut Pro is the best going for MAC OS home user. But, iMovie will also allow you to reduce most basic background noises and has some good enhancement features.

WOW... I know this is old, but what a great thread! I just got around to mounting my retched Hero 6 Black. The vantage point it terrible as the cameras sits on an axis that exaggerates every steering correction. Also, I have all kinds of audio issues. I ran the mic from the the GoPro adapter > into a 1/8”x 36” extension cable > into the mic plug > along the left side of the tank > under the rear, hinged tank bolt to the right side of the bike. Then, I coiled up the about 18” of extra cable > tucked it near the right side of the battery. The cable continues to runs along the right side of the subframe into the channel that terminates under the tailpiece. Does anyone use a remote to start and stop the camera? I’m going to try and mount the camera on the plastic just to the side of the radiator. These videos demonstrate me trying to ride in a less risky way. At 58 years old, I sold my ’20 R6 and got the MT to slow me down. I was a little out of it, as I had a rough night sleep. I wasn’t very sharp. There also some cool vids on the R6.

A windsalyer could reduce the wind noise effectively. Check the video below.
