Hi from Hope, NJ. I don't own a FZ10 yet. But I am pretty sure I will pull the trigger on one this spring. I thought I was set on getting a BMW S1000R or XR. But the reviews and value of this bike has me leaning towards the FZ10. I have been riding all my life and have always had sport bikes. Have tons of track time. Sold my last sport bike about 5 years ago. That is when I decided I couldn't put my body in pretzel mode anymore and bought a used Gen 1 FZ1. I love the bike. It just does everything well. But I'm ready for something new with all the new technology.
I have read and watched every review and shootout. Now I am just waiting for winter to yield to spring and some riding weather.
Great info in the forum. Keep up the good work. Happy New Year!
Greg

Welcome Greg. The FZ-10 is a much better choice than the BMW. The cross plane four is so much smoother eliminating the extreme buzz on the beemers and other conventional inline fours. Also, the electronic cruise control is something I wouldn't want to give up. Update us with whatever you end up with.

Both are obviously great bikes. As a previous BMW owner (R1200GSW most recently), I would point out the higher cost of parts and service for BMW. My BMW bikes were great bikes and very reliable, but were more expensive to own.
Other than that, you should decide which one you like better. I can tell you that the FZ-10 is exhilarating when being pushed, but extremely easy to live with for commuting and riding like a responsible adult.

Welcome to the forum.
I was looking at the S1000R as well, but seeing the cost of BMW parts & maintenance turned me off. I've had such good luck with Yamahas over the last 30+ years, the FZ-10 was a no brainer for me. The FZ-10 has been all I hoped for and a lot more.

Well after test rides, price haggling, and much research I purchased a 2016 Aprilia Tuono 1100 RR. If I had to pay MSRP I would have bought the FZ10. But I got such a good deal on the Aprilia I couldn't pass it up. Good luck and I will see you out on the road. Greg

My concern with a lot of these Euro bikes is service and reliability, our dealer is 87 miles away so that ruled out this bike for me. But if you have access to good service it should mitigate any serious issues with keeping it running. Stay safe.

But if you have access to good service it should mitigate any serious issues with keeping it running. Stay safe. The Tuono sounded good & performance was not a question, but the reliability was an issue for me. I've seen a few of them blow up at the track, one guy said it happened 2x to his and he was done with Aprilla. Another friend (AFM 250gp champ) bought an RSV4 and Aprilla was replacing the motor for him. He got rid of it. Too much for me, I counted Aprilla out. Performance is beyond my skill set on any of these bikes. I wanted a refined machine that could do it all, from track days to commuting to touring and I want reliability and a reasonable MSRP. Yamaha FZ-10 nailed it. But IMHO it's better than that, the bike has synergy, it's definitely greater than the sum of it's parts.
