Hey All,
Just gearing up for a long weekend ride next weekend, should be about 650 miles over the two days. Bike only has 3600 miles on it (of which I've only put 1000 on myself) and is still on the stock Bridgestone Battleax S22's. I'm eying my rear tire wondering if I should scramble to get a new one or plan on replacing after this ride. I'm not flush to the wear bars but probably about 1mm away from the wear bar on the center strip of the rear tire.
Just curious how many miles people have seen out of their stock rear tire. Obviously riding style, terrain, etc. make a difference. I could see this going either way where I could get another 1000 out of it, or I'm showing cords in 200 to 300 miles.
I'll try to post up a picture in a bit.
Was thinking about putting a Dunlop Mutant on it, seems like folks here have had good experiences with that tire, any other recommendations?
Also, before I replace the rear, I have to do a proper burnout - my initial guess is to turn off all the traction control settings and go from second gear - are there any gotchas I should be aware of before doing the burnout? My older bike didn't have any fancy settings so it was pretty easy but this thing has so many controls and settings I don't want to assume.
Cheers!

Here's a couple images of the rear tire wear. I think the previous owner used it mostly for commuting or something, center was pretty flat when I bought it off him.

So I'm getting less than 3000, sometimes just only over 2000 miles on my tires but I ride only in the canyons and mountains and I don't do any commuting. When I'm getting on it, I drop my PSI basically until the sidewall doesn't collapse so I imagine I'm on the lower side of the mileage range.
Otherwise, is say The mileage you're describing is normal for the stock tire and the current profile suggests a good amount of commuter or touring type mileage that wore down the center. The stock tire is a sport tire that has excellent grip for the Twisties and even beginner and intermediate track days. It has good grip but it wears down faster. Whereas the profile of the tire in its current shape would suggest a sport touring tire would be more appropriate for your bike. We have a bunch of threads on here so if you use the search, you'll find good suggestions for a sport touring tire.
I would say your tire is done. You will almost definitely be down to the wear bars with another ~700 miles and tires loose a significant amount of grip before they even get to the wear bars. Could you squeeze out another ~700 before you start seeing chords? Probably. But just be aware that youre ALREADY lacking grip in the rear. You might want to pump up the pressures in the back to slow down the wear a bit but this will also decrease grip. So depending on what type of miles and what weather you're going through, you might be fine. But if it were me and the type of riding I do? Absolutely would be replacing.

I got ~800 miles out of mine, but very different riding. The sidewalls don't look bad, although they've probably been through a hundred heat cycles--the middle is within 500 of showing cords methinks--time for a new rear tire...just my $0.02!

I got about 3000 miles on the S22, replacement tires have been Michelin Road 5 or 6 (excellent sport/tour tire). I get around 7000 to 8000 on the Michelins. Your tire has seen better days and should be replaced.

I got 2800 out of my stock rear. They are soft and the CP4 tears them up! I'm running a Dunlop Roadsmart III now and it provides plenty of grip, edge to edge.
The front has about 3500 on it now and it likely has another 800mi left on it. It'll get a Roadsmart as a replacement.

Almost to the wear bars on the rear after about 150 miles of track riding. Was pretty ham fisted on corner exit that day, plus the track surface was fresh and abrasive. On my FZ09 I can get a LOT more out of a s22 rear 6+ days if I keep corner speed up and be smooth on the exits. 700+ miles I'd guess.
This type of tire isn't well suited to commuting since they're pretty soft. 2k-3k miles on a rear might be typical. Go with a sport touring tire for mileage.

Stock tire was changed at about 3400 miles. Replaced with Dunlop Mutants, great tires btw, the rear is about done with just over 7500 miles. Love the Mutants and will be using them again, not as "grippy" as the S22 but much better wear and wet performance. Michelen Road 6 is anohter great option for a long lasting street tire, I have them on my ST1300 and they have been fantastic.

I went to Pirelli Angel GT 2 after my stock tires wore out. LOVED them. Then went for another set this past winter only to find that they're discontinued in the US for some reason. After chatting with the RevZilla team I ordered a set of Metzeler Roadtec 01 SE's and so far they've been great. Almost 4k on them now and they still look and feel great.

My 2021 MT-10 came with the Bridgestone S21 tires. The rear was shot at 2,000 miles and the front was still good for anouther rear. I put on a S22 rear and went anouther 2,300 miles. After changeing my forks and shock to ohlins and messing with the geometry I installed Pirelli Rosa IV tires. I got 2,900 miles on them and the front and rear were both shot at the same time. I just now installed the Michelin Power 6 tires. I will se how they do, however millage is not as big of a concern to me as grip and handling. With multiple bikes I don't put a ton of miles on just one bike over the course of the riding season.

My tire experience so far has been (in miles): 4,126 - Stock rear tire replaced with Michelin Road 6 7,247 - Stock front tire replaced with Michelin Road 6 10,856 - Rear tire replaced with Michelin Road 6. Still had some life left most likely. ~16,850 - Rear tire replaced with Michelin Road 6. The previous one had a puncture and I wasn't comfortable riding on a plug I did myself. I still had 2k miles left most likely.
The front tire (Michelin Road 6) is still going strong and probably has another 3-4k miles left on it, so in total I'm expecting 13k miles out of the front.
Bike details: Year 2022, everything is completely stock.

Got about 4.5k out of stock S21 rear and 8k out of front. Went with S22 after that. Burned thru another rear still on the front. If memory serves me have 13k on bike now. Sorry haven’t checked after putting her to bed this winter.
