So after selling my Honda CB1000R I bought the MT10. I never imagined how hard it would be to get the thing insured, as nearly all insurance company's want you to store the bike in a garage. The insurance company I was already with who insured the Honda, did not even want to know the MT10. I park my bikes 3 metres from my front door on private land, under a cover, ground anchor and chained, night light and a camera aimed over it. That was just not good enough for them. At least I did in the end get it insured through Bennetts, although the cost was over 5 times more than the previous Honda insurance. So rather than being tied to the only insurance company who would insure the MT without a garage, I bought a steel lock up motorcycle box that insurance company's will accept as a garage as it sits on concrete. In fact, the bike is far more secure in my new steel box than any garage I know. Inside the box the bike has a quality chain and quality ground anchor, as I replaced them both as well. Outside there is a lock on the handle and 2 van type locks top and bottom of the door Now at least I can shop around for insurance next year to get a far better deal.

Where do you live that you had insurance companies refusing to insure you without a garage? And why is the MT-10 insurance five times more expensive than the CB1000R?

Where do you live that you had insurance companies refusing to insure you without a garage? And why is the MT-10 insurance five times more expensive than the CB1000R? I live in Oxfordshire. I did get back to motorcycling after a 16 year break and rode the Honda for nearly 2 years before buying the MT10. The Honda insurance was under £200. Every insurance company I phoned to insure the MT10 including trying to get a quote online, refused me because of a lack of a garage. Thank goodness Bennetts agreed, although at just over £1000 cost with a high excess. It's not as though I am still young and risky like I probably was on on the superbikes I was riding in the 1970s. I am old. Lol. 71 years old! I have also been a qualified driving instructor for the last 33 years and have been training qualified drivers only on a variety of courses including advanced driving, for the last 26 years. So I have advanced experienced, maturity and common sense and still all they want is a bloody garage. All sorted now though. Lets see what next years premium is.

I'm glad insurance is a bit more fair here in the States, at least in my location.
