Just purchased a 2018. Brake light is on all the time.
Was going to disconnect the rear than front brake switch to see which one it is?
Can I do this at the connector or the switch itself.
Is this a common thing?
Just trying to figure out the best way to troubleshoot.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Disconnect the rear at the switch (brake pedal) then check if brake light goes out, depending on results, repeat process for the front. Often the rear switch can become clogged with dirt/debris and not turn off. Electrical contact cleaner works great for removing debris and restoring function. Sometimes the switch(s) may need to adjusted for proper operation. After market levers or rear sets have been known cause switch issues as well.

my fz09's rear brake switch would get kind of sticky and hang up. Had to clean it and put a tiny bit of lube.

The brake light switch was the subject of a recall, may be worth contacting a dealer and see if your bike is included? Brake and clutch switches are quite prone to getting a bit of crud/corrosion on all sorts of bikes, expecially the front. I would use some Deoxit or similar spray directly into the switch then work it on/off and see if it clears/cleans up.

The front switch has a recall on it, call your local dealer with your VIN to see if it's been done.
I also recall someone (on one of the FB groups I think) that had their rear switch go out of adjustment on its own somehow and caused the same problem.
You can disconnect both (one at a time) and see if/when the light goes out then go from there. If both are disconnected and it's still on then you've got a wiring problem somewhere.
