Does this happen when you wheelie for prolonged periods of time? No idea. There's some bikes that haven't been wheelie machines that have blown up in like 9k miles. There's others that get hooned to hell and are fine. I'm at a hair over 12k on my 19 and I don't ride out long wheelies, just the occasional lift during normal acceleration. The engine has a deep sump that stick in between the headers and the pickup drops into that sump as well. I do know that someone said the oiling system is different than the R1 engine. I think they said the oil passages in the MT engine were smaller. I wonder if there's a set screw for the relief spring in the oil pump that you can twist up a little amd bump the pressure up. The oil pump is the same as what's used on the R1 (OEM# 2CR-13300-00-00) and is used on all FZ/MT-10 (2016-2023) and 2015-2019 R1 according to Partzilla (https://www.partzilla.com/product/yamaha/2CR-13300-00-00). They changed the R1 oil pump in 2020 to B3L-13300-00-00. I did a quick search and couldn't find anything about the change.

I do enjoy a relatively frequent wheelie through two or three gears. Knowing about these certain "issues" was the biggest reason I got Y.E.S. with my 2021. They should really sort that crap out so someone doesn't die due to their engine grenading, if they haven't already with the 2nd gen.

Wow, very interesting! Thanks for sharing with the forum! It's always interesting to hear about these engines blowing up. I am hoping I don't have to deal with something like this... and I'm certainly hoping that it happens under warranty!

I have a 2018 mt10 i just bought with only 3000 miles. Seeing these posts of engines blowing up scares me.

Saw 1 at dealer this weekend. '21, 16,000 mi. set up for touring. Bottom end of motor torn up. WtF ?!?!

I wonder if any Gen2s have reported engine failures. Ive seen some with quite a bit of miles already.

I haven't seen any as of yet. They did change the engine just a bit for gen 2 although I'm not exactly sure what was changed. Yamaha claims a few more HP and more MPG but the more MPG is just due to 1 tooth less on the rear sprocket over the gen 1.

This was just me eyeballing the part number changes, so I likely haven't captured everything. 2017 - 2021 was more difficult, as the parts didn't line up nicely side by side like they did for 2021 - 2022.
2021 - 2022 Piston Rings Con Rod Bearings Crankcase Crankcase Cover Plug Straightscrew (bolt you remove to rotate the motor by hand) Oil Pump Cover Cam Tensioner Assembly
2017 - 2021 Con Rod Bearings Camshaft bearings Thrust Bearing Balancer Assembly Crankcase

They could very well be different though, it'd be impossible to tell without ordering one of each and directly comparing/measuring them, or getting pictures of them if possible.
