I have been looking at various MT10 and FZ10 models for sale . Now I am looking at a 2012 FZ1. I know it is not the cross plane crank engine, and I assume the electronics are a previous iteration. Can any of you illustrate further differences I should know about? How do the ergos compare, for example, or really any differences you can think of. Thanks. I should specify, FZ1n.

I can't speak on the FZ1 from personal experience but I would imagine it's like the change in generations from say a 2012 R1 to a current generation which I've ridden both. Basically, better engine, better suspension, and a much better electronics package. My guess would be the suspension would be the most noticeable, especially the front end and it would be more. Confidence inspiring over a stock FZ1.
I think it's a worthwhile upgrade. I feel like sportbikes across the board had a tremendous upgrade in the early 2010s. Almost all major models had generation changed in the early 2010s, a lot of these including electronic and suspension upgrades. Seem like a time where the industry technology made a good leap. Id say its certainly worth it if you can find an MT10 in your price range. But FZ1s have always had a good reputation and I imagine with minimal upgrades, you can get one that can hang with their newer generation no problem. So id say it's completely dependable on your wallet.

I had an FZ1 before I got the FZ-10 back in 2016. It's a good, solid bike, ergonomics are very similar. It's a heavier bike and it doesn't pack the punch and acceleration of the newer machine. After I got the -10 my immediate feeling was that for any particular speed you only required about 75% of the effort of the FZ1, it was just a much easier bike to ride fast due to better suspension and lighter weight. If you can swing the price I would go with the FZ/MT-10, it's just a better bike overall.
