Hi everyone, I’m about to buy a 2016 MT10 with just over 20.000km. It has a decat link pipe and akra exhaust but has never been flashed/tuned. I read mixed opinions online on wether that is an issue. I personally know a MT10 with 96.000km that also runs a straightpipe without a tune and no issues either. Is that going to be an issue?
What else should I be looking for.
Thanks, and looking forward joining the MT10 club

I haven't personally seen mechanical issues tied back to not getting a flash, but from my personal experience and others posted on here, these bikes benefit greatly from a flash. First to eliminate the amount of deacceleration popping and to "unlock" the bike that is pretty held back due to emissions and noise regulations. It's strongly recommended to get a flash.

You'll be fine without the flash. I had a 2011 R1 with a 3/4 system and i rode it around for years without a flash. The moment i sent to get it flashed from a reputable vendor on the forums, the ECU failed on me. After that, i never messed with the OEM ecu again. I was probably one of the unlucky ones.

Yea that's a very uncommon thing to have happened unfortunately.

This is bad and dangerous advice. If you remove the cats, you are *not* ok without a flash (or, I suppose, the noticeably more expensive and inferior power commander type setup). The bike will run objectively worse if not tuned for the new exhaust flow, and it may well cause damage. This isn't controversial; just because you didn't blow up your engine doesn't make it good to recommend. People routinely do these things and claim their bike is fine, but I've never seen dyno and AFR charts confirming this to be true... But I've seen a LOT of dyno and AFR charts showing it to be grossly false. I mean, you do you, but I'd bet my SP that it *does not run fine*. That's simply not how engine tuning works. It may well run, sure, but it will run objectively worse than it would with a tune, or with the stock exhaust. The stock O2 sensor is not a wide band sensor, and it is NOT capable of adjusting for such broad exhaust changes, and the stock fuel maps (which are used in a lot of situations where the O2 sensor isn't and the bike is in open loop mode) are very much not correct for an open exhaust. What happens here is that people make these changes, then assume/tell themselves that their bike runs better now (nobody wants to admit they spent thousands of dollars modding their very expensive bike to make it run worse) but what's very interesting is that you'll see absolutely none of these people posting before and after dyno charts. It's particularly common on bikes like these because the VAST majority of people will never actually make use of the full range of power available, so won't really know the difference.
