I just fitted the Yamaha rear carrier to my 23 MT10 and thought I'd share some notes for anyone contemplating fitting one. My carrier was part of a promotion in the UK where you buy the bike and get £1000 worth of accessories free, so I ordered the screen, 39l top case, lock set, comfort seat and rear carrier. The deal included dealer fitting of the carrier, but I thought I'd have a go myself.
Here goes:
First remove the piece of trim above the rear light - two screws then lift the sides and pull rearwards.
Side trim panels are held by a 10mm A/F bolt, an 8mm A/F bolt and three push-pin plastic rivets. To remove the rivets, push in the centre pin with a matchstick and then wiggle out the loose rivet.
There was no X marks the spot indication on the inside of my trim panels, so I got two M8 bolts, cut off the heads and sharpened the ends to a point. I installed the bolts in the holes in the frame, refitted the side panels and tapped the side panel with a rubber mallet so the pointed bolts marked it.
I then clamped the side panels in a drill press and drilled the two 26mm holes using a piloted hole saw.
Refitting everything was straightforward although I used M8x40 torx security bolts to fit the carrier rather than the Allen button headed bolts supplied.
