Some tips aren't specific to bikes, but have just as much value when accomplishing DIY projects. Use this thread to post general tech tips. Il'll start with two. First up is Sugru. It's a dense rubber type material that comes in small packets. Each packet contains a blob of soft material not unlike already been chewed gum. Just shape it how you want it and let it set for 24 hours. The result is a hardened rubber material shaped to your needs. For example. The spool hooks on my 20 year old race stand were bare metal. I don't want to scratch up the new red anodized spools. The solution? Sugru. The second tip is rattle can truck bed liner. It sprays more or less like spray paint (it cones out fast, so back off and take fast passes for a thin even coat.) The result is is a tough textured coating that protects and looks pretty good. I haven't used it yet on the FZ. It's shown here on a cargo box that took the place of the pillion seat on my BMW. The aluminum lid kept getting marred from having bags strapped on top of it. The truck bed liner coating has about 15k miles of hard use.
