Does anyone know of what material the new heat shield is made? Steel, aluminum, titanium? I want to paint it, but need material info first. Don’t have the bike yet, pre planning stuff. Cheers. The old one was perfect. Figures they change it. 🤬

Strongly doubt it's titanium. Best guess would be aluminum or steel. The weight may be an indicator. Take it off and if it feels lighter than it should, it's aluminum. If it's weight feels just right, probably steel.
I'm grasping at straws, but that would be my thinking.

Sorry, not being a jerk, but I don’t have it yet. That’s why I asked. I will know once it’s here, but that may be a couple weeks. Trying to get stuff lined up now. Appreciate the response though.
PLUS. Full disclosure, I may try something radical anyway. I could get a first gen cat, which comes with a black shield, for the same price (as a carbon one) and swap it. Lighter, less restrictive and the mounting points are the same. I’ve done crazier things…

For sure! I have a 2017 so I won't know for sure either.
Going off the 1st Gen shield, seems like aluminum to me.

See? It’s kind of weird. That’s my memory of the first gen I had, but when checking out the second it looked like steel. I’m waiting to hear back from a parts guy, but the forum was scolding me for not posting anyway, so I thought I’d throw it out there. Appreciate your feedback. Anyway, I’ll know more in a week or so. Just impatient. Cheers. 👍

Well time to kill a boring thread. My guy at partzilla, who I trust, says it’s most likely steel. So that’s what I’m going with for now. Yay. 😀

Not 100% sure of the material the heatshield is made from but I am sure that it is a non-ferrous metal. It does NOT contain enough iron to be magnetic, or react to a magnet.

I'm thinking aluminum as well (2017)...non magnetic as others have stated. Regardless of material, I would think the paint process would be the same...sand, prime, paint using quality stuff of course. I've painted several pieces on my bikes, both metals and plastics using that method and I've never had a problem with any of them. Keep us posted and show us your final outcome!

That area will be affected by heat though so its probably a good idea to know what metal it is and what high heat paint will best bond to it.

Sooooo, not a heat shield. Just gonna leave it at that. Painted it, then heat cycled it a few times and it doesn’t get hot. It’s more decorative than anything, and only really keeps a stray foot from hitting it. The cat, that is…
