My MT 10 after few hundred kilometers is due for spark plug replacement. Questions: 1) OEM NGK spark plug LMAR9E-J is available. But what Iridium or Laser Iridium equivalent to LMAR9E-J can be used? Anyone tried? 2) How often (at what mileage) you all change your spark plugs? What type? 3) I found NGK Laser Iridium SILMAR9B9 similar to LMAR9E-J (same heat hez-thread, reach, thread pitch size and same Heat Range). But Gap is different. LMAR9E-J Gap is 0.7mm within motorcycle specs, while SILMAR9B9 is 0.9mm - 0.2mm bigger than specified range. Does this make any difference or damage? 4) Overall Iridium over OEM what are benefits other than longer longevity?

I’d like to know as well as my change is coming up soon. Being a cheapskate I’ll really need to be convinced about the iridium plugs.

I don't know if Yamaha has changed the intervals but for the 2017, it's 8000 miles. I changed the stock plugs and they looked fine. I felt another 2000-4000 miles would've been fine and more consistent with the change intervals on some other bikes.
I also ride the bike aggressively, I don't use the bike to commute. So seeing such fresh plugs at the recommended mileage to change was very surprising.

So after doing some research, sleepless nights thinking about iridium, platinum, diamond and what not.... decided to go with OEM normal NGK LMAR9E-J.
Two reasons: 1) Its difficult to find exact replacement of LMAR9E-j in Iridium for Yamaha CP4s. All it trial and error 2) From R1 Forum someone said: "Iridium is waste, platinum is a waste. Just get standard copper plugs in your favorite brand. any car forum always talks about plugs and what not.... i've tried both, as many many have, you'll never notice a difference. just make sure they're gapped right."

I ran a dyno at a Ducati shop back in like 2007. Had some company with some special plug guaranteeing more HP. I ran them back to back on my TLR. I also ran like 5 different sets of plugs back to back - standard, iridium, etc. Every single run was within ~2 HP. That's within the margin of error. The iridium benefit is longevity. They tend to last longer and have a powerful spark longer into their lifetime than copper plugs. If you're changing them often anyways just get the regular ones.
