Recently i purchased D.I.D 525 VX3 chain for my Yamaha R6. On instruction page i saw D.I.D mentioned to use SAE 80W-90 to lubricate which is basically a high performance extended gear oil. Anyone tried this? (while Yamaha ask to use Soap based lithium grease to lube drive chain, D.I.D is OEM chain supplier for all Yamaha bike incl. MT 10...)

I live in a cooler climate and use this on my bikes.

So I think a lot of this comes to preference. As far as the question at hand, Gear oil is certainly something you can go with. It's my understanding that gear oil will fling a lot more than most dedicated chain lubricants but otherwise offers satisfactory lubrication and good corrosion protection.
Maxima seems to get good reviews all across the board.
I personally go with Bel-Rey Super Clean. I like how it goes on white allowing me to see where it has and hasn't penetrated and I like that it doesn't fling much, and pretty much doesn't fling at all if you let it completely dry before riding. All my chains are exceeding life expectations so I simply have no reason to change despite hearing that Maxima is supposedly better.
Figure out what's important to you and what the different products offer. I'm in a dry environment so I don't have to worry about corrosion as much as probably most of you do. Some of you will need heavy corrosion resistance. Gear oil might give you that but may require more frequent application.

I personally use Bel-Ray Super Clean as it doesn't fling off. Also regarding lube there's plenty of people that clean them and dry them and run them with just a light coat of light oil to repel rust. The lube that's important is sealed in the pins and bushings by the o-rings. It won't come out and nothing you spray on the chain will get into them either. Short of disassembling the entire thing to re grease it it doesn't much matter. If you use a lube use something that doesn't attract dust as dust and debris will wear the o-rings prematurely. www.belray.com/product/super-clean-chain-lube/

I use Mobil One 75w-90 gear oil in my Pro-Oiler during the blazing hot summer, when running the Desert West. .
But I switch to straight up 30W oil the rest of the year.
It's just preferences. As long as you are using some decent lubricant, you are likely just fine.

Willl84 & RedAndBlack- So during my last month visit to USA, i ended up buying Bel-Ray and Maxima both from Cyclegear store... so far used Bel-ray and it doesnt fling at at all... after applying Bel-Ray (to O-rings side on chain), i am coating outside of chain with Gear Oil 80W-90 and working well Next i will try Maxima
