I got a question for anyone who has had or done a valve adjustment on their FZ10. I was kinda overdue for my valve adjustment per service manual. I went ahead and took it to my lical dealer to get it done. Man this service is expensive but I love my bike and want it running in tip top shape. I was just wondering does the radiator need to be removed in order to do a valve adjustment? Original service quote was 1300 now its bumped up to 1400 because they had to remove the radiator. Just want to make sure they aren't tryin to pull a fast one.

The radiator is in the way of getting to the exhaust valves, not sure how much as I haven't done mine yet but I was in there doing the AIS block off plates. You can probably measure the clearances with the radiator in place but might have to remove it if they need to be changed at all. Plus flushing the coolant every few years is also recommended.

Jesus christ, $1400 for a valve adjustment.......
But regarding the topic at hand...I have not had to do my valves yet but it is typical for you to get two prices for a valve adjustment. One if that valves only need to be checked and not adjusted, and a more expensive one depending on if they need to be adjusted and how many. Obviously there's more labor involved if an adjustment is required.

I did my own valve adjustment, and yes the valve cover needs to be removed. There is quite a bit of disassembly to do this service plus seals and gaskets. That price is probably in the ballpark unfortunately.

I'm in the middle of doing my valves right now, using a couple of tricks I read about beforehand, like zip-tying the camchain to the sprockets so there's no chance of altering the cam timing. Also gluing the valve cover gasket to the cover proper with gasket sealant, for much easier re-installation. So far I've found all of my exhaust valves tight, and that's only @ 14,000 miles. Oem shims are pricey at $12 a pop. Hoping that I can swap them with a local independent shop who I'm good with.
Don't look forward to wrestling with that CCT, but read up on some procedures that should make it less painful.
