I never used on with the strap but I had one with the magnets back in the day and it worked great. Never had any fear that thing would come off.
Only issue I ran into was the magnet could pick up little pieces or metal or magnetic rock that started to scratch my tank. So i just had to make sure i cleared the magnet of any debris before i put it on the tank.
Unfortunately I don't remember what brand it was but it was a pretty solid bag if you don't like wearing backpacks. I did full 2 day camping trips on what I had in the bag and sold it years after as it was still in great condition

I had 2 cortech magnetic tank bags on the MT09. They were great although I scratched my tank (ever so slightly) because debris got stuck on the magnets like RedAndBlack said. Since the MT10 tank is not magnetic and I don't want to leave a strap on at all times on the tanks, I went with SWMotech and their magnetic ring system. Really easy to put and remove on the tank (almost as easy as a magnetic tank bags minus the fear of scratching the tank). Also a lot more secure than magnetic tank bags. On the MT09 I had the bigger of my 2 tank bags move a little if all the conditions were "right" (passing other vehicles at 100mph+, with the tank bag pretty full that created resistance to the wind) Didn't happen that often but was not always super confident. At legal freeway speeds there was no issue though. Overall I really like the SWMotech system and their tanks bags are goood, though pricey. Feature wise (mainly in terms of interior pockets), I tend to have a preference for cortech
