I emailed Leo Vince today asking if it was safe to use the link pipe with the stock O2 sensors. They said yes it is. I'm copying the email they sent in this link to a pic: ibb.co/0CN0gRQ

I emailed Leo Vince today to ask if it was safe to use the link pipe without a tune. They said it was. I'm copying the email they sent in this picture link: ibb.co/0CN0gRQBecause no offense to anyone, I'll trust the O2 sensors over a tuning shop that just sets my bike to a static tune. I think it's safer to leave the sensors in.

I ran my MT with the LV link pipe for a 1000km and it was OK, maybe a bit flatter than normal at low revs. I found the LV link and Akra slip-on a bit too loud (or I am a bit too old) so I refitted the cat and butterfly, then had it reflashed. Don't hold back on a reflash, it transforms the bike.

Had a Graves slip on initially and it was really loud.

You can always buy the active tune unit instead.
Also if you go with someone like 2WDW you have nothing to worry about it "not being safe" to have the sensors removed. The bikes run lean from the factory. That is UNSAFE to a point. Having the A/F mix set properly is much better.
Also the tune does other things that are beneficial like lower the temp that the fan comes on at, reduce the crazy amount of engine braking, make the throttle response smoother and less snatchy. It's a whole different bike with the flash.

From what I understand, like the other post, is that they run lean from the factory, and doing a decat with no tune will make it even leaner, and that's definitely bad for it.
I got a 2021 earlier in may, put 750 miles on it completely stock, sent my ecu off to 2WDW for the normal base tune, then put my link pipe on while it was getting flashed. I've put another 3300 on it and it's been doing nicely from what I can tell. I went with 2WDW because they seemed to be the most reputable.
I've run it flat out numerous times but not constantly. Nail the throttle 3rd gear in the power band on flat ground and the wheel rips right up so it seems to be running at its full potential.

2WDW Actually says that the bike runs rich from the factory. There was another post about it in the exhaust thread. I think these tuning companies out there seem suspect. I trust Yamaha more, and they made the bike with two O2 sensors, and made the cat easily removable knowing people would take it off. I just wanted to post because I've done a lot of research and I think there is a lot of misinformation out there about it being unsafe to ride the bike without the cat, which is untrue. I can see people saying the throttle response might be different, but is it worth sending the ECU to someone I've never met, paying $300 and not knowing what they really did to my bike? I would never do that.

I have the Yosh MT-10 slip on muffler on my bike currently. I was just thinking about doing the decat this winter. I wonder how loud it would be. Leo Vince said they would get back to me about DB ratings on the bike if they had them.

They just responded to me. They said with the stock silencer and cat at 5750 RPM it is 92 decibels. Stock silencer and Leo Vince link pipe is 104 decibels, so a lot louder. But I don't think 104 is crazy.

I think these tuning companies out there seem suspect. I trust Yamaha more, and they made the bike with two O2 sensors, and made the cat easily removable knowing people would take it off. Well seeing how it'd against federal law to remove the catalytic converter they wouldn't make it easier to do so. They're like that so you can actually put the bike together lol. Would be impossible to get the headers installed to the engine with the cat in the way. It can be unsafe. The cat changes back pressure and airflow and can cause damage. Is it likely? No. I ran mine for about 40 miles with the cat (one trip to work and back) and then put my exhaust on and then rode it for another 1400 miles before I had the ECU flashed. I'm at 9700 miles now with zero problems. They will literally tell you what they do to it. Email 2WDW and ask them what the ECU flash for the MT consists of. Heck, it's even listed on their page for the MT-10: 2wheeldynoworks.com/products/yamaha-fz-mt-10-mail-in-ecu-flashing-service Here, I'll even list it so you don't have to waste a click lol: Custom IAP Fuel Maps Custom TPS Fuel Maps Custom Ignition Timing Maps Custom Electronic Throttle Valve (ETV) Maps Adjusted Cooling Fan Parameters Disable Stock O2 Sensor Fault Code (Required w/ Aftermarket Exhaust) Disable Deceleration Fuel Cut Disable Exhaust Valve Fault Code (Required w/ Aftermarket Exhaust) Disable PAIR Valve / AIS Fault Code (Required w/ Aftermarket Exhaust) Disable Top Speed Limiter They won't give you the exact mapping because that's how they make their money but they'll more than happily tell you what changes they make. Also someone like 2WDW isn't some rando. They've been doing this for years. They dyno the bike and build their tune off of that and then offer the mail-in service. They actually run each bike for hours on the dyno (Nate posts lots of videos on the 2WDW Instagram account). They run the same bike with multiple exhausts so they can make minor tweaks as needed. They've done thousands of individual bikes and have done mail-in reflashes on many more ECU's. When you purchase the flash they ask what exhaust you have and if there's any other mods and flash your ECU with the correct mapping. I sent mine back to them to have the autoblipper enabled and they emailed me to ask if I still had the same exhaust or any new mods as they'd update the flash while they were enabling the blipper. If they were a bogus company blowing up bikes you'd surely know about it. This alone is worth it. More HP and more TQ literally EVERYWHERE.

Who are they? Just some guys in a shop? It's absolutely not worth it. I'd be more concerned about blowing up the bike by sending it to 2WDW than leaving the stock sensors in. You're never even going to use that power on the street.

You're never even going to use that power on the street. It's not just about the power if you actually paid any attention. The throttle response is night and day better. The engine braking is reduced. The fan temps are lowered. Also "just some guys in a shop" have flashed THOUSANDS of ECU's.

I just installed the same link and got the 2WDW ecu flash. Your bike will definitely run leaner and hotter than stock. You will most likely not be happy. The email clearly stated drivability may be affected and a tune is recommended.
I know you didn't ask me, but I must say in my personal very recent experience. Please do the tune you will not be disappointed with the transformation of the bike except for maybe one thing.
Connection from you to bike and back to you might be the most impressive and unexpected change. It's really like magic or electronic wizardry. The power change isn't where I thought it would be. I have a 2017 FZ-10 and before tune and LV link install, I drove mode B (the most aggressive mode). I got use to it and fine tuned my throttle hand to where it wasn't an issue wise with snatchy throttle response, but now OMG it's 1:1 and I love it. I digress the power is in the higher rev range. It pulls all the way to redline whereas before it would die off at 9kish.
Second best thing is the exhaust note. If you are going to have the setup as I, LV link pipe and stock can. It will sound a little rowdy. I love it. I was considering a comp werks exhaust, but thinking about it that would be too much.
Now the area of possible disappointment is the decrease of mpg. For my riding style (tad hoonie) I lost 3 mpg, however I gained an unmeasureable amount of SPG (smiles per gallon).
But for real forgive my rambling. Message of story is get the tune and your bike will thank you. Drop da 🎤

Even when the exhaust MFR recommends it they still trust Yamaha more. If you trust Yamaha so much then why are you even removing the cat? Run it there was the YamaGods intended 🤡

I appreciate your response! I don't mind the throttle on the bike, and it has plenty of power for me. I really only wanted it louder to be honest. That's why I was looking into everything. Leo Vince emailed me back and said that the stock can with cat is 92 db and with the link pipe it's 104. These motors just sound so awesome. I just installed the same link and got the 2WDW ecu flash. Topic is pretty simple if you ask me.
Slip on which should not alter air/fuel ratio much is fine without a tune.
Remove the cat and you need a tune as air/fuel ratio is drastically altered.
I have a 2WDW tune that I put on when I removed my cat. Bike runs better with their tune than it did stock. And since having the tune I've done thousands of miles on trips and at least a dozen track days.

There was two topics, I presume accidentally. I have merged them and moved this one to the appropriate sub forum.
Also, some drama seems to be brewing and spilled into another post. Hopefully I've addressed it. Back to your regularly scheduled programming...

OP, do what u will. Most of us have mods on our bikes and went with a flash, some folks didn’t. It’s your bike do whatever you like to it.
My take, if you remove your cat then it needs something done to fuel mapping. Plain and simple. It’s been that way for decades with bikes and exhaust mods.
