Hey everybody. Just saying hello to the forum since I'm new here. Picked up a 2018 black and blue MT-10 last week as a birthday present to myself and am super excited to see how I enjoy it. It was finally time to get rid of my 1290 Super Duke and I was torn between a Tuono 1100 and BMW S1000XR until I came across this bike which seemed like a nice in between for me. I do a few long trips a year to the smokies and spirited road riding on the regular and needed something new before i put too many miles on the KTM. Ride about 10-12k miles a year, so only keep bikes a couple years before they become too difficult to sell with higher miles. It has just under 8k miles, came with a full set of luggage and touring screen, comfort seat, exhaust, crash protection, and heated grips; so it definitely checks a lot of boxes for what I was looking for. M4 decat sounds really nice, luggage system is easy to use and take on/off, as is the windscreen. Very versatile between comfortable and sporty, with a hint of exotic in the sound. First things I've noticed is a bit of a snatchy on off throttle response, but have a ecu flash and dyno scheduled already. Put on some new Bridgestone S22 tires already. Brakes are pretty weak feeling compared to the last 3 bikes with full Brembo setups, but installed some ebc hh pads and flushed with new fluid and will be bedding them in today as long as it doesn't rain. Lastly, the suspension seems really soft for my weight 240lbs, and while getting tuned am gonna have a chat about options for respring revalve front and rear. Anyways, I'm sure I'll find this forum helpful for maintaining the bike, learning more about it, and seeing what else I might want to modify over the winter while I'm not riding. Cheers

Welcome to the forum! If you don’t mind me asking, what made you make the switch from the SDR?

I usually get something different every 2-3 years. I never planned to keep the Super Duke long term. Bought it October 2019 with 2400 miles, sold it with 26400 and missed half the summer last year waiting on parts from overseas. I want to ride every Super Naked out there and only can afford one at a time. I had an 09 Speed Triple, 16 S1000R, then the 15 Super Duke before this. Naturally the Tuono is still high on my list, but when I saw this one I had to jump on it. I would 100% buy another Super Duke, so selling it was pretty difficult. But when I'm ready for a new experience, it's just a matter of finding a good bike to replace the one I have.

The SDR is high on my list but you hear a lot of reliability issues so it’s good to hear actual owners testimonials.

Every bike out there has potential issues in my opinion. I've heard horror stories from every forum of every bike I think I ever owned. Ive already read on this forum about detonating engines. As far as the Super Duke goes though, there were a couple things that were high probability of failure and a couple things I just learned to deal with. The fuel pumps seemed to be just a matter of time before they died. I could tell mine was when I turned the key on and it whined loudly, so when I went to ride it I took it out of the neighborhood and knew instantly something was wrong. Easy, cheap fix. But only a matter of time. Also, the radiator is known to crack by one of the two hangers up top. I caught mine with a pinhole leak. Could be a cheap fix locally, but going on 2000 mile trips, I ordered a new one which wasn't cheap at $450. Air in the hydraulic clutch is also common, easy to live with, just burp the master cylinder at the lever real quick or replace and slave cylinder with an aftermarket unit for under $200. They are premium quality machines, but like anything you learn to live with the niggles, or replace problematic parts. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another, but I'll probably live longer if I don't. 170hp and 100ft/lbs torque to the rear wheel after mods is a serious machine. But it made me laugh out loud in my helmet every time I rode it.
