Manual states 10w-40 or 15w-50. Which should I use. I have 100 miles on my MT10. I have a supply of Mobil 1 10w-40, Motul 10w-40 full synthetic and Motul 300V 10w-40. The Yamaha dealer said I should use 15w-50 Yamalube. I would like a second opinion, please. I am a newbie to this forum and have recently upgraded from a 2019 MT-09 which is for sale.

Either is just fine. If you live in a cooler climate use the 10w40. Warmer 15w50.
I've always used 10w40 Mobil full synthetic

My understanding is Yamlube is sourced from several different suppliers depending on both the market it is being supplied to and current oil refinery issues and supplies. When I was employed by Yamaha NZ, 15 years ago to be fair, our bulk oil, 44 gallon drums of marine & MC oil, came from Singapore and the prepackaged retail packs came via YMUS. Sometimes market influences saw us bringing in retail packs from YME (Europe). That is one of the reasons punters claim, “it’s repackaged Motul” etc. A particular batch of Yamalube product will have been manufactured by the same refinery that also produces oil for other brands.

Welcome to the forum!!! I combined your threads since they were basically the same topic.
Don't make it out harder than it needs to be. The manual actually covers the oil thing pretty good, it's not any harder than that. If you're not in any climate extremes, it's doesn't matter much between the 10w vs 15w. The manual provides that graph explaining the temperature coverages.
As for oil, any fully synthetic that meets the JASO recommendations is fine. In my opinion, Motul is race oil and overkill for most people considering the cost. But if you have some left, it's probably better to use them sitting on a shelf somewhere getting old.

Me personally, on a brand new bike, I would stick to the manufactured recommended oil and brand until the bike is properly broken in and has a couple thousand miles under it. For warranty purpose only! Or keep receipts and create a personal maintenance log with paper trail. Not to say there is anything wrong with the other oils, just don’t like nor want to deal with corporates on non senses if anything happens.

I have ran both 10w-40 and 15-50 both Ams oil. found no temp change. and had both sent off for testing to see ware rate 0 problems wisconsin weather from 35f -106 on trips

Nofi, i remember researching (rather spending too much time on this when my 1st service was almost due for my 2021 MT-10) on engine Oil. Go with Yamalube Perfomance Full-Syn 15W-50 (i am using this also on my R1M). Now they have newer packaging with blue sticker... Note: i live in region where max ambient temperature goes 50deg Celsius in summer and 14deg Celsius in Winter. Also change Drain bolt and washer to avoid leakage, if still using OEM (not required but recommended).

Yamalube, filter, and crush washer for both the R1 and MT. I reuse the bolt. I live in the Pacific NW.

Odd my bike came with a solid thick washer from day 1 and I've just been reusing it over and over.
Has Yamaha moved over to crush washers on the newer models?

It's a solid washer but it's still considered a crush washer. I know what you mean though - my TL1000R had one that would actually "crush" when tightened.

Normal oil changes I change the filter every time.
But when I do track days I will change my oil every time and sometimes I dont change the filter because theres literally only a few hundred miles between changes.

Changing Engine Oil Filter cartridge everytime you replace Engine Oil makes sense and very easy (accessible) on MT-10s. Its pain in the a** on R1 & R1Ms where you have to open complete cowlings, sounds lazy but true to follow service manual

BTW, found another thread on this Topic with some useful information and links.... fz10.org/thread/1833/type-oilI started using Motion pro Oil Filter Magnet with engine Oil Cartridges after recommendation on above thread. May be something useful (Make sure to get proper size matching filter)

Which weight oil, would you all suggest? Manual says 10W/40 or 15W/50, it will be Yamalube regardless of viscosity. Bike has a bit under 600 miles and ambient temperatures have been in the mid 90s (F) during the day. I am leaning to the slightly heavier (15W/50) and a full synthetic.

I have always used 10w/40 and I live in Texas where it gets to 105+ on a regular basis (although I try not to ride in that heat) and do multiple track days per year. Never had any issues.
