New member from SLO County California. Picking up a new MT-10 next month. Have had most of the more powerful sportbikes over the years, starting with the MachIII, Z1, XS1100, FJ1200, R1, ZX14 and two ZX14R's, along with numerous other bikes, a Sportster 1200 and a Softail Deuce. Thought that I would try slowing down a bit and get a Sportster and then the Deuce. At 67, it was nice to get away from the race bike position. While I enjoyed the Sportster a lot, and while the Deuce is fixed up very nice, I'm just not a Harley guy. Don't know why I never thought about a naked sport bike. Should be a hoot, especially living so close to Big Sur. I've always done all of my own work, never had a bike in the shop, so looking forward to learning about all of the tips and tricks in maximizing the potential of the MT-10. Looking forward to get the same feeling and bond that I had with the FJ1200 with this new bike. Be well...

Welcome to the forum. Given your bike history and not being satisfied with the Harley, I think you'll really come to appreciate the MT10.

Welcome to the forum How many miles/km do you usually put on your bikes? You've got some great riding areas near Big Sur it seems!

Well, I put over 500,000 on the FJ1200. 60,000 or so on each ZX14R, and 50,000 or so on each Harley. Yeah, not just Big Sur, this area is a great place to ride bikes. You can choose the coast, the desert or the mountains in short order. The Rock Store, Cold Springs Tavern, Pozo Saloon, and Big Sur are all decent day rides.
It really cracked me up when looking at used bikes to see such low miles on them. Heck, the Deuce is a 2006 and it had just 12,000 miles on it. How do you only ride a bike 500 miles a year? The first ZX14 was a 2007 and had only 4000 miles on it. I don't get it. Back in the day we rode all of the time. That being said, these days my riding is slowing down a bit, probably will see only 20-25,000 a year.
I also suffer from the problem where my head tells me that I'm 25 years old, but my body, abilities and reflexes demonstrate that I'm actually 67. While I've never ridden as a hooligan, I was always able to be among the fastest in any group. Used to really enjoy days at the track, probably get back to doing that again.
I've been able to peruse 100's of posts and comments, there is a lot of very informed and knowledgeable people here, it will be cool to pick up advice from everyone here.

Wow! 500k miles on a bike is quite one hell of an achievement! I'd be interested to know how many bikes worldwide make it to that much. If you don't mind sharing, I'd be interested to know what has broken/what big maintenance you had to do on the FJ1200... Do you still have this bike today? I feel like after I've been with a bike for 500k miles it would essentially be a part of me/my personality! I don't have an Mt-10 yet - just an Fz8. I've been able to put 45k miles on it myself, a total of 55k on it now. No issues so far

I lost the FJ1200 almost 15 years ago on a mountain road. On one side of the rode was a mountain, on the other side there was a cliff. I went over the cliff. Was riding on a day I had no business to be riding on. Just kept up excellent maintenance on the FJ, did top end job after 200,000, at 350,00 bumped it up to 1314cc. Yeah, the bike was like an extension of my body. I've had many bikes since then, none have made me feel the same. That bike was very good at showing up wannabe racers on the way to Laguna Seca up Hwy 1. Hoping to catch the same magic with the MT-10.

I hope you were able to keep some parts from the bike as a memory. My goal is to keep up with maintenance as well and hopefully never run into issues. Ride on - Let's wish us all luck in getting the 2022 Mt-10!
