Hey guys,
As you all know, the oem battery on the FZ10 drains pretty quickly if the bike is left stored with battery terminals connected. I have not purchased a battery tender yet as my battery is roughly 5 years old and I've been maintaining it by charging it. The battery dies out on me after a couple wets of non-operation. I just bought a motorcycle battery disconnect switch on Amazon to disconnect the bike when I don't ride it for over a week.
Do you guys think this is a good idea?
Would disconnecting the battery reset my trip meters? I use trip 2 to track oil changes and trip 1 for regular maintenance items like tire pressure and chain slack.
Thanks

Thanks The OEM battery only drains quickly if you have something that's always on or the battery is junk. Seeing how yours is 5 years old it sounds like it's junk. I let mine sit all last winter without being plugged in (got too cold to wire up the tender lead) and it fired right up in the spring. The only OEM thing pulling power is the clock in the gauge. That won't kill the battery in a week. I have doubts that a disconnect will do you any good. Just replace the battery.

I have nothing connected to the battery, will definitely get it replaced soon.

Yea that battery is beyond its life so anything else you're squeezing out of it is good, you're definitely doing something right.
If my bike sits more than a month, I pull the battery and charge it completely and leave it disconnected. I could see how some type of on/off switch would accomplish the same. It's very important to keep a battery at full charge when sitting, as it will sulfate if it stays in a state of discharge which, over time, will diminish its ability to hold a charge.
