Anyone come from an FZ07?

I went from an FZ-09 to the FZ-10 thinking the same thing about added adjustability. I now have 2100 miles and have tried every conceivable combination front and rear. See StoltecMoto post for real test results. The rear shock is undersprung for anyone over 150 lbs. I know this is correct by trial and error on my settings. There is only one precise point on the preload where it doesn't bottom out at my ungeared 165 lb weight. And, at that setting (30 mm rider sag) it rode very rough over typical poor surface quality blacktop highways in Wisconsin. My test method was a plastic tie wrap on the shock piston rod. I moved it all the way to the upper end after every adjustment and after every ride, it had been pushed to the very bottom. Only one specific setting (described above) did not bottom out with about 1/4" of travel unused. Stoltec's post also identifies the internal valving short comings of the rear shock. At 200 + lbs, this will be worse for you. The only way that the standard FZ-10 suspension will work well is if you do all of your riding on smoother roads or tracks. I have routes that I prefer to avoid the bumpy roads and love the ride I get. But, any time I hit rougher stretches, it becomes very uncomfortable. This bike also has the same short 55" wheelbase and limited suspension travel as your FZ-07. Dropping $2000 on suspension on a sport bike isn't going to eliminate the bumps on bad roads. 

I'm still waiting for a viable fix for my shock. Minimally, that will be a stiffer spring. Ideally, a shock with proper internal valving along with a stiffer spring.

Regarding the brakes, the fix is relatively cheap and very easy. I installed EBC HH sintered pads front and rear. The improvement is huge. Cost $50-75 off ebay.  Time 5-10 minutes per pad. Simple solution and not a deal breaker.

Hopefully this helps answer your question and make sure you read the StoltecMoto post regarding suspension. If you find your FZ-07 to be too rough, the FZ-10 is not going to be much better.

Other than suspension, I love my FZ-10.
