Hello, I am new here and read a lot of posts regarding the MT10 before I purchased one. I grew tired of KTM shenanigans and needed more bike than my little Duke 690 could give me so I found a 2021 MT10 Matte Raven Black with under 900 miles on it that came with an Akrapovic slip-on, some ASV levers and a tail tidy (the bar ends I just installed) for a decent price and christened her maiden voyage (the ride home) with a nearly 1000 mile adventure. After I get some time on her and my bank account recovers I am looking to install a cat delete (undecided on the exhaust valve delete or do something like the graves yet) and possibly some other stuff like secondary air injection delete (require more research) and then do either an ECU flash or PCV with a dyno tune. After coming from a KTM that cost almost as much when I purchased it 4 years ago I have nothing but nice things to say about the MT10 so far. The KTM just doesn't feel as refined as the Yamaha and, lord willing, I expect the Yamaha to not spend 1/4 of the riding season in the shop. The MT10 also pulls like a bat out of hell compared to the Duke and doesn't take 12 years to reach 100+. I will give the duke the edge on stupid slow wheelies but that took many a mod to accomplish (replaced stock 16-40 gearing with 13-50 after I got a full exhaust, 02 and secondary air delete, and PCV with dyno tune). Overall, the MT10 is one hell of a bike and I am happy with my purchase so far. So now that is all out of the way how did I get into bikes? I grew up riding motorcycles since I was 6. My parents were kind enough to get me addicted to the motorcycle bug with a little Yamaha PW 80, followed by a TTR 125L, and when I outgrew that I purchased my current dirtbike a CRF 450R. When I was 16 I got my motorcycle and car license and rode an old KLR 650 around for years until I decided the "pig" was too slow and not what I was looking for in a bike and I upgraded to the Duke 690. After many angry words were exchanged between myself and the Duke I decided to end the long and toxic love-hate relationship. For the Dukes replacement I was debating between a Z H2 and the MT10. After finding the beauty above in I decided to pull the trigger and here I am.

I also had a 16 duke 690 then fz09 now this beast and by far my favorite bike ever and much more reliable compared my ktms from my experience. Good luck on your new MT 10. I had motocross bikes until I was 40 and then retired from riding never having owned a street bike. 5 years ago my wonderful GF bought me a Ducati Scrambler for Christmas and my addiction was back. I kept it for 1 year and had too many issues plus $500 service because I couldn't do the valves. Add in a $2900 gas tank that sprung a leak and a $500 headlight that just shattered by itself and Ducati trying to not honor the warranty and I was done with Euro bikes. They're very seductive in every way except for price and reliability. I had a 2016 XSR900, 2017 FJ 09 and now a 2019 MT 10 and they're all bullet proof. You'll hear lots of people with anecdotal experience that claim that their (insert brand) Euro bikes are reliable but statistics don't bear that out.

Thank y'all for posting in here. It was a hellofa ride home but I think it gave me time to learn a much more powerful bike without tons of temptation (apparently southern AZ is full of sheriffs behind bushes). Thanks gman I think that this is one of the sexier bikes I have seen (even if my buds call it a Decepticon looking mofo I know they are jealous) but I feel you sdshawn and mclovin on the Euro temptation and disappointment. I know this won't get much traction here but I don't want to write out a separate thread until I get more information but my engine just over a week ago started making horrible sounds (5000 rpm clunking-like it ate a valve or something) suddenly along with a loss of oil pressure and now my bike is at a dealer waiting engine tear-down. From reading these forums before buying this bike I am assuming I am unlucky since not too people have engine failure at 2400 miles. Talk about heartbreak right at the beginning of the season and with a 2 week old bike!

Oh man this sux!!!
Stuff like this is what makes me afraid to buy used.
Not saying the person you bought from intentionally screwed you but rather you just never know what happened to the bike before you get your hands on it.
I've bought used before but only when I can get the bike at 1/2 or less than going to buy a new one.
I really hope this turns out to be something minor and can be fixed without a lot of time and money.

That totally blows bro, I hope the warranty picks up the bill on that nightmare. I'm not sure how I would react to that info , keep us posted.

The verdict came in this afternoon, rod bearing failure.

Wow that sucks so bad really sorry to see that info brother . Definitely not the way I would want to be introduced to the 10. I've been lucky on my used purchases so far on bikes . So any ideas on how or what happened, that would have been very painful for myself just thinking about it so I'm sure it's worse living it.

The warranty is covering it but no idea as to the cause, I may ride the bike like a liter bike is supposed to be ridden (hard and fast) but there has been no indication of weird engine wear. I was told the 600 mile maintenance was performed but I also changed the oil when I got home due to used bike paranoia and it looked fine. I think I just got unlucky and am gunna end up being bummed for 6 to 7 weeks of riding season. I called my dealer yesterday and they said it was a "couple weeks backorder on the piston and ring kit" so I am not anticipating having the bike back until mid July (FML). On the flip side my work has blessed me with some overtime and I ordered the color clusters reverse and red kit (came in today) so I will have a wicked looking display when I get my bike back.

I'm surprised that they're not just replacing the engine entirely since it's warranty. Usually when you get into doing an entire rebuild it's cheaper (labor-wise) to just put a new engine in and call it a day.

It's funny you say that willll84, you are not the first person to tell me this. I also am now a former Duke 690 owner but got a call from the shop. Piston kit can ship on the 10th of July and they need an oring that is back ordered until *drumroll* 25 July :*(
I think imma call up Yamaha next week and see if they will give me the 4 year extended for free since I'm out 9 weeks of riding time due to the 2400 mile engine failure on my bike.
