I've been looking at this bike all week. Watching videos, reading articles... you guys get it. Today I went in to the dealership where I bought my 2020 R6 to check one out (they only have a used 2019). The front end is as horrid as every picture I've seen. And the fake air intakes... sheesh. Everything else about it is killer.
The looks of the Suzuki and Kawasaki aren't much better and as best as I can tell, those bikes don't measure up. For starters, they don't have that damn Yamaha motor, and that's enough for me. Of course there are other reasons why the other two bikes aren't in the hunt. I don’t need to tell you guys that.
I've heard the "You don't have to see it when you're riding it".....blah blah blah. You've heard all of it, or are living it?
So, do some of you guys love it, or were some of you right where I am now? Do you forget about it when you're pulling a 4 or 5 gear wheelie?
Thanks for the read. I'm really interested to hear from those who were where I'm at right now.
I ride a 2020 R6 with a bunch of performance mods. It's a dynamite bike, but the 104 in a 65 last Sunday has me re-evaluating street riding. Believe me, 104 is far from the worst of it.

I was seriously considering a new GSX-S1000F, but it only comes in black and $1000 of the rebate went away. So between the price going up, the looks, no cruise, and halogen bulbs, the FZ-10 was an easy choice.

I was seriously considering a new GSX-S1000F, but it only comes in black and $1000 of the rebate went away. So between the price going up, the looks, no cruise, and halogen bulbs, the FZ-10 was an easy choice. I cross-shopped the following: MT-07 MT-09 CB1000R Z1000 GSX-F750 GSX-F1000 1290 SDR Hypermotard 950 S1000R Tuono V4 Ducati Streetfighter The MT-07 was fun but with my commute I could see myself wanting more "go". If I was 100% city riding it would have been fine. The MT-09 was better but not as comfy as the 10 and had an annoying buzz in the bars. The regular I4 bikes are just boring to me - the smooth drone of the engines is just meh at best. Kinda lacks soul in my opinion. The 1290 SDR is a great bike but I couldn't justify the price - nearly $7k more than the MT-10. Same for the Streetfighter and Tuono V4. The Hypermotards are silly fun but not too comfy for me for longer rides. The MT-10 won for me because it fit perfectly in the middle of price, looks, comfort and technology and the cherry on top is that the engine sounds incredible. I rode all three MT's at a Yamaha demo day back to back and the 10 was the only one that had an ear-to-ear grin across my face for the entire ride.

Hey Willl. While I haven't ridden any of the bikes you have, everything you said makes perfect sense. The only reason it isn't a slam dunk is... I can see going to the garage and seeing that horrific front end and phony air intakes. Do you dig it so it doesn't bother you, or is the bike just so good that you got over it?
I suppose I'm looking for some authentic words of encouragement to help push me over the edge. The goal is getting off the R6, which just wants to run, and riding something more sane, yet have great performance. There's something about being in the supersport riding position that tells me to go go go. I'm 58 and looking for a reminder that it's time to turn the page, slow down, and taking in the views. I figure sitting upright and getting a blast of wind would be a good reminder. But there are the wheelies on the MT-10, which would be hard to resist.
Thanks guys. I appreciate your input. This clip gives you an idea of what I'm talking about.

Gotta agree about the engine! I remember drooling every time I heard a Ducati vtwin with exhaust and other similar v-powered bikes back in the 90's. This bike has that same effect. Really digging the handling so far as well. You just think about turning and it's already started. I just gotta put a windshield on it and some bags and I'm good to go. I may also try the Seat Concepts seat as I find the Yamaha comfort seat pretty stiff. I've also been off a bike for over a year, so I'm giving it time and riding every other day or so. I was also looking at used BMW K1300S's- a local specialist talked me out of getting into a euro money pit. Thought hard about a Z900RS Cafe. Great bike, I had a 18 Z900RS non-cafe and I remember wanting more power and I wasn't sold on the cafe's wind screen being enough and knew the FZ/MT-10's had a ton of aftermarked windscreens with real height to them.

I am much happier with the looks after putting the Yamaha windscreen on it.
If you cannot live with the looks though the only other bike in this class to get is a Tuono. It's sexy as hell and sounds just as good.

^Agreed! The Tuono does have a more aggressive riding position and very few windscreens available and quite a job to replace it. That and service/parts pricing. Moto Club in Santa Monica is a top shelf place. The owner texted me with pricing on 2020 with 0% financing that blew east coast dealers away even with $650 shipping. That is one awesome and fast bike! There are so many more touring options with the FZ/MT that it was a great choice for me.

Nothing personal but I so tire of those who say the FZ/MT-10 looks bad. I think the bike looks great and I mean that. I like the Japanese way of designing motorcycles. They do a hell of a better job than those designing American bikes and are even better than the ones at BMW although BMW's are for the most part good looking bikes. The only people who can maybe do better than the Japanese are the Italians. Italians do design with passion and it shows. If only they could do reliability as well as design. If you want something more traditional then get a Harley. No performance but they look like something from 1960. Is that what you want? The 10 has a face like a Praying Mantis and I think that is kinda mean, it is modern and it sez speed and acceleration. Bottomline: By your comments I do not think you should get an MT-10. Definitely the wrong bike for you.

I can see going to the garage and seeing that horrific front end and phony air intakes. Do you dig it so it doesn't bother you, or is the bike just so good that you got over it? I dig the looks - I think it looks angry and beastly but the looks are definitely polarizing. Not a fan of the fake air intakes but they cram all the stuff in those that would otherwise be under the fairing of the R1 so unfortunately it's gotta go somewhere lol. I've heard 2022 is supposed to be the redesign year for the MT-10 as the 07 and 09 just got theirs so who knows what that'll look like. I suppose I'm looking for some authentic words of encouragement to help push me over the edge. The goal is getting off the R6, which just wants to run, and riding something more sane, yet have great performance. If you're looking to slow down this isn't the bike for you lol. This bike only tops out at about 155-ish (from what I've seen on YT) sure but it does the 0-100 REALLY fast and the QS only makes that easier. I routinely find myself way over the speed limit without even noticing honestly. I also added an MRA Racing windscreen to mine to help with the little bit of highway I do for my commute and it made a HUGE difference and also doesn't look terrible.

I've had my '17 FZ-10 for 4 1/2 years, I liked the edgy looks right from the start and now it just looks like an average bike. You either like, or accept, the design language of the bike or you don't. I think Yamaha now realizes that it was probably a little too extreme for the market which is why some of the other naked bikes in the line have been redesigned to be a little less polarizing. Only you can decide if you can live with it long term or not. It wasn't a problem for me.

So coming from the cruiser side of things, I gotta say I really love the look of the mt 10! It looks mean as heck. I don’t get why some actually dislike it so much..can’t wait to get mine. I really hope they do not make the 10 look like the other ‘21 models...not my taste at all. To each their own though.

I hope they don't either but honestly if we get an SP version here in the US finally with the update and it comes with an up/down QS, 6-axis IMU and all the other goodies from the R1 that the MT-09 got this year I'll look past the ugly front lol

I had an 2017 FJ 09 which was a pretty cool looking and performing motorcycle. I got smoked by a mustang and couldn't keep up and I knew at that exact moment that I wanted a bike that could. I saw a used MT 10 for sale and started reading about the bike and knew it was the bike I wanted. I was never enthusiastic about the looks but I didn't hate it either. The tomato red wheels are a lot to digest. I'm 64 and finally got off the retro look band wagon and embraced modern looking motorcycles. I bought a 2019 and I love it. It checks all the boxes for me. The next level bikes become too track oriented and prices start getting crazy. This bike will do most of what the hyper liter bikes will do plus some stuff that they don't do. The interesting thing that I've found is that of the last 4 bikes I've owned, this is the one that gets the most reaction. A lot of people love it and compliment the bike and it runs the gamut form young kids to old men. I get people giving me the thumbs up riding down the highway. I put on 12,000 miles last year. I didn't buy it to have a trophy in the garage. I spend way more time riding it than looking at it.

I gotta say, I'm digging the looks of mine. I really wanted a 2017 for the lacquer gray and lime wheels.
