So in my immense bike shopping over the last 2 months, I came across this really cool guy in Wilmington NC who specializes in Beemers. He actually scorned me for looking at the K1300S. I owe him a thank you. He carries and installs upgraded springs and shocks and sells Hyperpro and Wilbers at the same price as the US distributor out of NJ. Not sure what the consensus is on this forum for a rear shock, but this guy sings the praises of Hyperpro. He dropped Ohlins due to repeated leaks and rebuilds.

I've had some discussions this week about altering the Ohlins forks in my SP with our local Ohlins agent, and he was not too complimentary about the durability of their seals either. He was actually pretty blunt about the NIX30 fork design as well, and feels Ohlins need to move away from that due to the issue with excessive high-speed compression damping.

Looks like the shock only has rebound damping adjustment going by the description: That to me seems worse than the OEM. It's also an emulsion shock instead of a remote reservoir.

The reality is that all of the shocks for the MY 10 are basically R1 shocks. The chassis is very rigid and not forgiving. I couldn't imagine going to that Hyperpro. It's an emulsion shock with no reservoir or compression damping. I actually can't believe they even have the balls to sell it. It does come with a purple spring if you like that kind of thing.

Well dang. That's nuts how expensive one shock is! I though $1000 for an Ohlins was nuts!

That looks better. Gotta find somewhere to mount that reservoir though. I'd be much happier with the Ohlins honestly. They're the best for a reason.

I don't know the brand which means I can't give any kind of accurate assessment. I do know that it's a good price about $900 USD. I have K-tech rear and Ohlins cartridges on my bike. I also believe that Nitron is as good as Ohlins and K-Tech. All 3 brands run about $400 USD more than the Hyperpro. They all have a different reservoir arrangement than Hyperpro. Do any of these things make them better than Hyperpro? I have no idea but I'd need a very good explanation as to why 3 proven brands are a lot more money. I've always thought that after market shocks are way over priced and maybe this is how Hyperpro is gaining market share by a better price point. Yet a $400 difference is a lot. I'd hate to spend $900 and find out that the shock is not as good as the other brands. Do your homework and don't talk yourself into a cheaper product. If it turns out that it is a great product than let everyone know.

Bombarsbeemers in Wilmington NC carries Hyperpro and Wilbers and dropped Ohlins due to leaks. Paying more doesn’t always equate to a better product, which we know. Why does this bike require a $1300 shock? Is it because of all the adjustments? Seems when I was shopping other bikes, $800-900 bought a fully adjustable Nitron, Wilbers, Hyperpro, or Ktech.

Why even buy a shock? The factory is fully adjustable as-is. Just re-valve and re-spring it to your weight and riding style. If you're not racing it you'll likely not notice a difference.

Who is someone who really knows how to revalve it? I see Hyperpro sells progressive wound springs. Any recommendations? I weigh 200, probably 210-215 with gear.
