I m wondering how many of us have actually had a holed radiator or oil cooler on this bike or others ? I haven’t been holed while riding but did have a oil cooler start squirting hot oil over the front tyre and brakes of a Ducati 999S that I had- but that bike and indeed brand hated me and regularly tried to kill me.

I have!....Was taking my new ride home (FZ08) & i hit something in the road and it came up and ripped into the radiator.....after that its now the first mod i do on all my bikes - install rad and oil guards!

I installed them on mine not for that fact I was worried about a puncher that's never happened to me yet but on the 10 I started noticing the fins getting folded over or hit by who know what especially on the left side edge or clutch side.
I was out there with pick tools and tweezers trying to straighten the fin back so then I started looking for the gourds. It may save me from a hole but at the least it will hide the bent fins from site they are very noticeable when the are bent over .
The two cost me 50 bucks they were the china ones that have mt10 painted wich I'm going to paint out but light weight and they fit great look good can't see the other bent fins I could not fix.

I didnt have them on my FZ-07, and noticed the fins bending.
I put the guards on the MT-10 first thing after i bought it. Partly because i think black looks better on a blue on black bike and bent fins look horrible, and partly just in case. I often ride longer journeys and wouldnt like to break down.

This is my first bike with an oil cooler. Last bike I didn’t have any issue with the radiator being left open. Personally I just like the black look of it but I always like extra protection too.

I have had small rocks break the radiator in my car (BMW M2). It sucked dealing with that so I put the guards on my bike just in case.

Seen it happen on many road trip videos on youtube. I wouldn't take the chance.

I've never put them on any of my bikes and I've never once had a problem in 20 years and LOTS of miles of riding, both here in the Northeast and back in Arizona when I lived there for a few years. I did put them on this bike though but it was mostly to black out the silver radiator and oil cooler.

I did it to this bike because I could...never did it to my 2 fz09's and haven't with my xsr900. No other bike either. Just seemed like a fun and expensive add-on. Basically I'm and idiot!

I voted the first option, “don’t use them, never had a problem” (pre-COVID I’d ride 17k-20k miles a year). I did notice how easy these fins did bend with debris hitting. So, I installed my first set of guards and shouldn’t have to worry about it. I really do like the black look though.

I use them. Cheap insurance against rock damage, especially if you ride in a quick group of riders in close proximity. I've been hit in the upper chest / shoulder area by a rock a the track that was picked up by the rear slick of the bike in front of me coming out of a corner maybe about 120kph / 70mph. Stings pretty good. That kind of projectile would easily put a hole into the aluminum fins of a radiator or oil cooler, then ya got a really slippery substance coming out in the path of your rear tire. Not fun.
