Hi All.
Just joined the forum so many thanks. I have a MT09 but looking to buy a 10.
So to all you well informed 10 owners is there anything that i should be looking to avoid when looking at bikes...my price range will be ok for a a second hand one not new. I have read about the brake switch recall so things of that nature that i should make sure have been covered on a second hand bike... or the best add on bits that a second bike may have to look for.
Thanks stay safe, get your knee down and stay off the black stuff.

Welcome to the forum!
My favorite is just talking to the owner. Be aware of the maintenance schedule. IF you ask an owner on a 20,000 mile bike what mileage they did the valve adjustment at, and they look at you with a deer in headlights, you have someone that doesn't take care of their bike like they should.

Welcome I recently came from a fz09 to a mt10 and glad I did it just more of everything along with fuel burn. I agree with the last post service records kept also for me I always look at how the chain is kept.

Redandblack & SDShawn thanks for the input... SDSHAWN interested in your thoughts on the change over to the 10. I have had this MT09 for a few years, just placing the for sale ad, but the more i read about the 10 the more i want to ride it and own one.
Prior to the 9 i had an R1 which i had for 8 years only sold it due to a move from Europe to Bolivia where the roads and driving habits don't suit road bikes.
I loved the R1, best bike i have ever ridden.
Do you have any thoughts on how the 10 it compares to the 9 or an R1. I know horse power is down on the R1 and riding position completely different but how is power delivery compared to the 9 or R1 and braking ? how it handles on those twisty roads and what tyres have you got on the 10 ? Anything else you can offer on the difference between the 9 and the 10 thanks.
Anyway thanks for the post, ride safe, smooth is always quicker...

Well I can only give you my thoughts from the 09 to the 10, I've never ridding a R1 heard they are great bikes I come from a motocross open desert back round and like upright riding style had a super hawk ridding couple other sport bikes on the tank is not my thing I'm more supermoto style so with that said I loved my 09 was upgrade from the 690 duke I sure your aware of all the flaws with 09 main one suspension and brake . The 10 is so much better there and so much more solid feeling I assume like the R1 , the 09 had a lot of torque the 10 has more again probably like the R1 with a shorter gear ratio the 10 wheelies at will and likes to hang there awhile. freeway again more solid in the wind then the 09 also the 10 likes to travel faster the the 09 meaning you will not notice higher speed as much as on the 09 75 80 was a good cruise speed freeway on the 09 vs 85 90 on the 10 and the pull from those speeds you feel it want to pull your arms off the bike. I was out accelerating a guy in our group 210 hp ducati latest greatest super naked out of the turn and pretty much any time I wanted and he rides track a lot I have zero track time . I wish I could have both bike or a duke 690 and the 10 in the garage only draw back on the 10 is your going to spend a lot more money on gas especially now with them going up. Im getting like 30 over all like a small car so if thats not a deal breaker then go for it I hope I helped .
Im sure someone else on here can give you the R1 angle someone who's had all three maybe.

SDS Thanks its good to read practical stuff from someone who has made the switch. Sounds to me that I will enjoy the move up.
I am lucky enough being the age I am not to have to use the bike all the time as in the old days when rain or shine so the petrol thing is not a real concern.
In the old days I would use my bike it to get to work and home again.
Now I ride when the weather is good which is most of the time as I am down in Uruguay and the sun shines here a lot.
I am s a fair weather rider theses days.
How is the pillion riding position, same as the 09 ? Are there any little quirky things on the 10 that you have noticed ?
When I got the 9 I found the throttle was not as smooth as it could be. I don't know if it was just my bike or if its a minor gremlin on all 09s. I have now got use to it.
Keep me posted on how the bike is doing. Thanks for the reply
