Sorry to post a tire thread, but I'm a little confused. I can't find a 190/55-17 rear tire in the Michelin Road 5 GT. They only have the 50 aspect ration version. My service guy (and friend) really wants me to try the 5 GTs as he put them on his FZ1 and loves them. Anybody know whether this is just an odd size or something I am looking at wrong?

Any reason you want the GT? I thought that was just for heavier bikes.

I'm not sure why that is what he liked so much on his FZ1. I will ask when I get a chance. I didn't even do the research yet to learn that the GT was the thicker spec tire. I sometimes get the thicker spec version of the Pirelli Angels on my FJR, but that's a different purpose.

That's not the GT option. The GT option is out of stock everywhere. See above post that I need to find out why he was pushing the GT.

I need answers fast please. 3500 miles on bike with front tire half life. Question do I buy another original S20 for the rear and go another 3k wear both out and then switch brands to witch I can not make up my mind on whats so ever. All the top 5 sound great but I can not nail one down , I simply have a lot to learn about tires it seems.
Ok so a back round on my ridding needs , I Live in Riverside from San Diego I love our mountain twisty's and back roads where I'm from. I only ride for fun don't ride track or in the rain unless caught in it by chance. Grew up on dirt bikes and love to ride like super moto style , MT10 top hooligan bike that ever ridden .
This is what I;m looking for .... A tire that will go at least 6k miles but still feel like the stock S20r on bike now.
What should I be looking at?

I'd wait until you're ready to do front and rear at the same time. A matching set will give you the best idea on how a tire performs.

I have mixed S20/S21/S22 on the FZ-10 with no issues. I wouldn't mix S-series with another brand however.
Hypersport tire that can last 6k miles on the rear on the FZ-10 doesn't exist. You have to look at touring options like the Road 5 or T31

hi, I would never mix new and old tires or different types or brands. pull the trigger on two new tires there are so many good tires to chose from. I just put on a set of s22 I like the profile of the stones.quick on its feet feel and I always know what the front tire is doing.
bite the bullit

That seems kinda silly. I've gone my whole life doing two rears to a front as that's how long the fronts usually last. No sense throwing money away 🤷

Thanks for the input I was going to get another S20 for the rear mine was bald down the middle bought bike at 2400 it has 3500 now but they burn off so fast it seemed like a waste. after a lot of research and some input from a few friends I bought a new set of Michelin power pilot 2CT . Been told I should get 5k plus miles no problem with amazing grip so will see how that goes tires are getting mounted tomorrow and break in this weekend. S20 rear was going to run me 240 after install loose for another 2500 to 3500 miles or spend the 340 for both and maybe double the miles . Feel free to let me know if that was wise or not thanks again for the input.

Yea I'm looking forward to when my tires are toasted and I can put something more touring-oriented on the bike.

I plan to keeping the 10 forever, so I'm sure I'll get a chance to try some tires. I'm trying to find the happy medium place the most traction with the most miles for my 10 and only the 10.
If this set of 2ct last 5000 then I just made money on the tire and labor for tire change 20 bucks each if I buy the tire from them is a good deal.
I'll do an update after I do a good ride on them and if they are as sticky as the stock S20 ..

I forgot to ask if everyone takes off the brake calipers on the front and back to remove tires , I had to on the 10 it was giving me some trouble getting off and touching the wheels. My fz09 I did not have this problem they came off much easier with calipers intact..

I used to swap the rear without taking the caliper off but I would waste 30 minutes trying to line up everything. Now I just pop it off, it's much faster.

Yes I pulled the front and rear calipers off , no way I could have done without scratching the wheels . A lot more involved then with the FZ09 its good to know how it comes apart and the effort it takes.

I know that we are not meant to do this, but I decided to read the manual first before I replaced a tyre yesterday. For rear wheel removal, Yamaha advise removal of the caliper and the ABS sensor prior to wheel removal. Taking the ABS sensor off requires two small allen bolts, and means the sensor head is less likely to get clouted by the axle spacer when the wheel drops down. With the calliper off, reinstallation was fairly simple, and I just had to make sure the brake pads fitted up against the bracket on the caliper mount when I refitted the calliper.
