Hi all,
New guy here, Ganze is my profile name. I live in Texas.
I ride a pristine, low miles 03 FZ1. I got it for a song more than two years ago and it’s been great, especially for what I spent on it. Got an exhaust, swapped shocks with a correctly sprung R6 shock, got the right Racetech springs/oil and went 1 tooth up in the back. It’s a perfect street bike and decent on the track now that the suspension is dialed in.
Had an Suzuki SV1 before that, which I also loved. Had that bike dialed with the right shock and springs/oil, heli-bars and 1/2 inch lower pegs and and a Yoshi exhaust.
The FZ is a better bike to live with and that 5 valve motor is so essential I’ve with and it loves to howl. But sometimes I miss that beautiful V-twin of the SV.
The MT-10/R1 cross plane engine is my favorite, period.
I won’t buy an R1, the seating position just doesn’t work for the miles I put on a bike on the street, commuting and fun rides.
But the MT-10 looks have had to grow on me. It’s intentionally edgy and not classically “pretty.” But I have come around and and MT-10 will likely be my next bike. (Although some of the XSRs I have seen have looked interesting and that’s a much simpler machine)...
But that cross plane 4 kind of seals the deal.
So that’s me and why I’m here. I’ll lurk more than anything and learn.
And for anyone else who has had to let the edgy look of the MT-10 grow on you... what were some of the simple things that you may have done to alter it a bit?
Best, Ganze

Welcome!
I've been a v-twin fanboy (I owned two TL1000R's) as well and the CP4 of the MT-10 is what drew me in. The sound, the feel, the power - all of it. I went to a Yamaha demo day at local dealer in 2019 and rode the 07, 09 and the 10 and after riding the 10 that's what sealed the deal for me. It was the ear-to-ear grin the entire time riding it. I'd say find someone who has one you can test ride or hopefully Yamaha does a demo day near you and take one for a spin. I loved the look from the start - it's different. It never had to grow on me thankfully lol.
I've done/am doing some mods for comfort more than looks. I got rid of the stock mirrors for bar end mirrors so I could actually see something besides the insides of my elbows. I put a Hindle 3/4 exhaust on which sounds sick. ECU is currently at 2 Wheel Dynoworks for a flash. I've got a mid-windscreen waiting to go on along with PAIR block-offs, frame sliders and a BMC air filter. Also waiting on my Seat Concepts foam/cover kit to come in so I can get the seat redone as the factory one isn't that great for me at least.
I'm planning on getting some of the panels wrapped this winter as well. I've picked out 3M Satin Smoldering Red. Going to do all the panels that come painted on the colored version (I've got the all-black Raven)
