Hello, My present bikes are both Yamahas but combined they are 50 years old I have a 2002 FZ 1 with 146,00kms and my 1982 RD350LC that I purchased new when I was 21 years old. I fully restored the rd a few years back can say I enjoy riding both equally. I've owned or ridden all kinds of bikes from a z50 Honda to Honda Goldwings. I consider myself a mildly aggressive rider who rides the corners fast and the straights slow(ish). My summers (4 seasons here in Quebec) usually consist of a Sunday jaunt between 300-500kms and a trip consisting of 5-7 days somewhere around 3000kms. I also commute to work weather permitting. My FZ is my do it all bike that I've used to cross a thousand kms on a weekend trip and embarrass my friends on their crotch-rockets! I've been mulling recently about picking up a new(er) bike and let go my FZ. What's crossed my mind was the MT10, Aprillia Tuono and the Speed triple. The only bike I haven't tried is the MT10. I borrowed my friends 2nd gen FZ and found it totally a different ride compared to the gen1. How does the MT10 compare to the Gen1 and Gen2 models? I know my Gen1 is a flying couch with my Sargent seat but the idea of the MT10 is pulling all the right strings that I just can't ignore. I recently scratched the Aprillia off my list because of the warranty issues a couple of my friends have had with their bikes. I found a 2018 MT10 with only 4,500kms that am seriously taking a look at so I'd like to know what I might NOT like in the bike? I've read all kinds of different reviews and like this forums as well. Its a Yamaha so I am strongly leaning on it...... cheers

I had a Gen 2 FZ1, the MT-10 is completely different. Lighter, more power, more agile. I would say you will run 25% faster with the same rider input. Just a much more refined machine. Its forte is not touring, though. Mileage is a low point.

The MT is a whole different animal from the FZ1. Ride-by-wire throttle with different modes and that cross plane crank sounds AMAZING. I've had mine for about 3 months and ~1300 miles now and love most of it.
Fuel range can be a downer depending on your planned use for it. Mine it mainly a commuter so it's not an issue. Expect ~100 miles (160km) or so before the light starts blinking. It does automatically switch to a fuel trip meter though which is nice.
The seat can be annoying - it's got a downward slant to the tank. I'm getting the Seat Concepts kit this winter for mine. Another thing is the twitchy throttle at the on/off point. It's a fuel cut for emissions thing but an ECU flash takes care of that (also getting that done this winter)
