Looking to join you all with an FZ or MT 10. I come from a background of triples... '99 speed triple -> '15 FJ09 -> '13 speed triple. Still have my '99. Sold the FJ because it wasn't really my thing. The '13 is has been good to me but it's almost too refined. It's lacking some excitement I think I will get with the -10. I'm seeing videos of like 3rd gear power wheelies on the -10's. I want something a bit more playful but still the japanese reliability and ease of ownership. And numbers don't lie........ Stock -10 is faster than my 1050 by a good margin. Tuned is even faster I'm also wanting a quickshifter w/ autoblip and cruise control. Both of those are pretty much impossible to add on my speedy. I'm leaning towards a gently used grey/green FZ because it's my absolute favorite color scheme, and a bit cheaper than MT's. The plan would be exhaust, tune, and the ft ecu qs w/ autoblip. Is it worth doing the FTECU self tune kit over a standard 2wdw ecu flash? I'm not very familiar with with the data link... Can you read DTC's with it and everything else? I just had 2wdw flash my FJ ecu and never had a problem but it was a bone stock bike otherwise. And secondly, is there any real advantage to going MT over FZ if I'm going to do a tune and aftermarket QS w/ autoblip? Seems like the difference is negated at that point.

No real advantage to an MT over and FZ. Starting in 2018 the MT came with the factory Yamaha QS stock but it's upshift only and won't work with downshift so you'd have to replace the sensor anyways. I just bought a leftover 2019 -10 about two months ago and I love it (mostly). It's pure silliness to ride and sounds awesome with my Hindle decat 3/4 system. But now they're debuting a new MT-10 (assuming) soon. They just debuted a new MT-09 two days ago that comes with upgraded color dash and comes with an up/down quickshifter. So you might want to wait and just look at a 2021 model for the updated goodies. If they added that stuff to the MT-09 I would assume they'd add it to the -10

Avoid FTECU all together, go with woolwhich or some other company. Too many people are experiencing problems with FTECU

alright guys (and gals). made a deposit on a '17 grey/green. 7k miles.
Comes with the comfort seat, tail tidy, case and frame sliders, M4 3/4, bar end mirrors, and pilot road 5 tires. Pretty happy with the deal. They're giving me a good amount on my trade. I don't like bar end mirrors but I'm assuming someone will have stock mirrors I can buy and install.
Excited to join the club.

Congrats! I ditched the stock mirrors for bar end ones because the only thing I could see from the stockers was the insides of my elbows. There are a few companies that make mount extenders that move the mirrors up and farther out but they look kinda silly
