I just picked up a brand new 2020 MT-10 a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it! I also have a 2004 FZ1 which i've ridden for almost 10 years and I may be biased, but I think that is one of the best motorcycles ever made. It's comfortable, reliable and with a few modifications (Ivan's jet kit for one) it has more power than i'll ever need. However, it was starting to show its age and I was in the market for a new bike. I took a serious look at the R1 (I am a bit of a Yamaha fan boy) but decided it was a little too much of a track bike for me so I started researching the MT-10. I'll be honest the transformer looks was hard for me to get past at first but it has really started to grow on me. With all of the great reviews and praise for the cross-plane engine I decided go with the MT-10. I've had mine for 3 weeks now and put 250 miles on it (mostly commuting to work and a few weekend rides). This bike is amazing and I could not be happier with it! It's more aggressive and nimble than the Gen1 but it also has the comfort I was looking for. I also now understand all of the hype around the cross-plane engine, man that thing sounds so good! One of the first things I did was to install a guards on the radiator and oil cooler (why does this not come with one from factory!?), fender eliminator and aftermarket levers. At some point I plan on changing out the mirrors and possibly an aftermarket exhaust (with cat delete) but the stock sounds surprisingly good! Any tips on other mods to look into or things to watch out for would greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I would invest in case, frame and possibly axle sliders. No one plans to go down but you want to protect that plastic and engine cases. I crashed last year at about 40 mph, the engine slider and case slider on the left side were destroyed but no other real damage. Without those pieces I'd have broken plastic panels and a lot of case damage. Replaced those sliders and I was good to go.
Swingarm spools are good to have along with a good stand since the bike doesn't have a centerstand like your old FZ1.

Sliders are next on my list of upgrades to do to the bike, any recommendations on which ones to get? I am definitely going to miss the center stand from my old FZ1, it made it a lot easier to work on the bike.
